I would think twice about those motors. Personally I would look for one with at least 454 Mag motors.

What kind of top speed with twin mpi's?

Probably run upper 60's. Find out what props he's turning and the rpm's. Looks like a nice boat. My dad had a '97 with the carb. 7.4's and we loved that boat.

Namwot, my best friend made the mistake of buying a 2000 29 ft outlaw w/310 454's. It is a gorgeous boat, takes the rough stuff good but 4 people/ 3/4 tk gas/600 ft elevation at 75 degrees it runs a best of 60 mph. He has been tryin to sell it for 2 years but the 310's KILL the deal. It has been repropped and the tune checked to achieve a best of 63 mph empty. If you don't care about top speed jump on this deal but if you have speed vision or are considering resale than the 310's aren't a good starting point ,Smitty

I have looked at A LOT of 29 Ols in the past few weeks I would consider buying. Everyone I find that I am interested in has 310 hp 454s. I walk away the second I hear that. The boat needs more motor than that IMO.

I have a 2004 29ol with the 496mags. Best on the Gaffrig speedo was 77mph cool temps, 2 people and 1\4 tank of fuel. Have not put a GPS to it but guessing it is running 72-73mph on GPS . All I can say is I love this boat. With the right power it is great :)

Re: Anyone know anything about this 29 OL

Another thing to remember is that is not very difficult to get 50-75 more hp out of the 7.4's. You can spin them to 5k and keep them very reliable. There are a ton of posts in the technical section on this.

Re: Anyone know anything about this 29 OL

I had a 97' with 7.4's......The guys with the
25 OL's would run with it.

Personnaly, I would go with 385's or better.

That seems to be the right amount of "go" to
make them run good.
plus, alot of those boats with this power or better,
are equipped with external steering,
which is a veerrrryyyy nice feature.

that looks like a 97, not 98. is that a steel bar up front or white. cant tell in the pic.

i know of a 98 in austin thats about the same money, 454 mpi's. if that one doesnt turn out to be a good deal, i can turn you on to this one.

BajaRunner 07-15-2004 10:50 PM

Re: Anyone know anything about this 29 OL

and i think liquid asset knows of a 97 with 502 mags that runs either 73 or 76 for about the same money.

skygod 07-16-2004 12:46 AM

Re: Anyone know anything about this 29 OL

Yep, MAGS are a must!

thosetwins 07-16-2004 09:14 AM

Re: Anyone know anything about this 29 OL

Yes with mags or better you get the lathem steering and the k-planes which gives excellent stability and control at higher speeds...this option is a must have don't get it without, and it looks great on the business end with all that hardware:)

Does a white or metal bar determine the year?

I would be interested in the one liquid asset knows about. I am leaving town today and won't be back for a week but I might like to look at it when I get back.

Glad you guys talked me out of the mpi's. I drove 500 miles one way to look at the boat and it was sold before I got there.

I have a 2001 with 496HO's and only 110 hours. You can have it for $74,000. Runs 79 on GPS. Boat looks like it's never been used.

Re: Anyone know anything about this 29 OL

That is way nice 29 Outlaw and just what I would like to have but I just can't afford that right now (at least not without selling some other toys).

I really want to move up from the H2X I have but I do not want to get into something I am not happy with like an underpowered boat.

I am seriuosly considering moving up to a 25 OL for now and then trade up again in a couple of years to a 29 OL with good power.

Sounds cool. Remember, the selling price of my boat drops $500 each month so this time next year it can be had for $68,000. I think with HO's this boat runs plenty fast. Despite what people say, there aren't too many 80mph boats out there. I know that for a fact cause I don't see too many people passing me.

Namwot 07-28-2004 08:01 AM

Re: Anyone know anything about this 29 OL

My boat runs 70 and that is plenty fast. I am not really looking for 80. 50's would be a bit dissapointing.

29 ol, What year did they change outdrive height? and what did it do to the speed with same power?

They changed outdrive height in 2002. I've said it before and I'll say it again. I saw no point in raising the X on 29 Outlaws. Boats with the raised X are forced to run 4 blade props. I run 27" 3 blades. Whatever they gained in speed by raising the X was instantly lost by being forced to run 4 blade props vs. 3 blade. It made no sense to me.
