What do you think?
2 Attachment(s)
Well looks like the post from the 20th got deleted some how so I'll post it again.
Do you think I need more bow lift? 24P Bravo 1 at WOT I still never feel the boat lift out of the water. And the water is breaking about at the drivers seat. Can't really tell from the pics but it is. |
Re: What do you think?
Looks like your pushing a lot of water. How much is the drive tilted?
|
Re: What do you think?
What do you mean by tilted? If you mean how far am I trimmed up almost to half way on the trim indicator. I can go more but doesn't help.
|
Re: What do you think?
Yes I meant trimmed up. Don't pay much attention to the indicators. You will feel the boat start porposing once your too far.
Bravo is considered a neutral prop. Mirage will give better bow lift and speed but you get less bite out of the hole and in turns. Hydromotive gives better transom lift. If your still unhappy take the boat out and check for a hook in the hull by putting a level in the pad area. A lot of boats have some degree of hook. see what your's is. |
Re: What do you think?
Boat never porposes. And never felt the boat lift up out of the water. There is a hook 1/16th on each side on the strake. Was told this is normal.
|
Re: What do you think?
I keep trimming mine up until it is on the verge of porposing. Sounds like you just need to trim it up more.
|
Re: What do you think?
Are you running a Bravo 1 prop? I can trim it all the way up till it won't trim any more and it still never porposes.
What are your slip #'s |
Re: What do you think?
Hmmm, personally I havent seen a case where over trimming causes a porpoise. Usually, you can trim until you feel the prop let go or become unhooked , so to say. If you are at that stage in the pictures then yes you need more bow lift.
|
Re: What do you think?
Depends on the hull and power I guess. On my old t-330 32 I could trim them up until they were surface piercing (rooster tial) and still not porpose.
This boat lets me know QUICK when I'm out too far as it will become unstable and porpose. A little ware and were airborne. Try making an adjustment on the position lockout switch (one of the round disks on the gimbal ring). This should allow you more travel. |
Re: What do you think?
maybe your trim limit switch isn't letting you trim it high enough ? you will feel the prop cavitate when you trim too high.
|
Re: What do you think?
The prop was recommended by throttle up.
And yes I'm at that stage in the picture. Any more trim I would give it gained nothing and the boat acted no different. The prop does start to cavitate if I trim to high. So I have plenty of trim travel. Someone should do a database on the Baja boats at the top of this thread since theres so many out there (Boat type) (Prop used and labbed or not) (RPM's running) (Speed #'s GPS only from 3000rpm's and up) (drive used) (anyother mods done to outdrive or bottom) |
Re: What do you think?
Have you tried a 23p mirage plus ?
I' ve seen my friends try 4 blades on their 25 outlaws, and they tend to run "nose down". compared to the 3 blades. jt |
Re: What do you think?
Yes I tried a 23P M/P. Ran it all the way to 5400 rpm's and only went 63 MPH GPS. Something had to be wrong with that prop. So I gave it back to the prop shop and they didn't know where it came from. Maybe thats why they got it!
jt29olhp500s do you have a pic of yours running in calm water? I see your aviator looks like it but it's kind of small. |
Re: What do you think?
What was the ride attitude with the 23m/p ?
Did it carry the bow any better than the 4 blade ? Yes, something sounds wrong with that prop,........ I would expect those speeds ( 63 mph) at around 48-4900 rpm with a 23 m/p ( thats what my friends get with their 25 o/l's with 385's running 23 m/p's) I'd try a some other 3 blades. Here's an old thread that has a larger picture of my boat: http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...t=picture+test This was at LOTO shootout a couple of years ago, and the water was relatively flat. jt |
Re: What do you think?
I have a 33 outlaw and feel the bravo 1 props don't raise the bow enough, and the ride suffered. Now running 3 blades labbed by huston propeller and the boat porposes more than I'd like to see and I have to use tabs more but the boat rides on top for sure

The 23P M/P really wasn't any better at anything. I really couldn't test with it very long because I blew out the hub 5 min into it. But was able to do a high speed run with it. Supposedly it was a stock prop! But was used. I just think there was something wrong with it.
Outlawinil, What was your speed increase with the 3 blades from HP? Did you do the Accellarator design? And do you have a running shot at WOT with both setups? This is what I beleave my boat should look like running at WOT What props are you running at? |
Re: What do you think?
Speed increase from 4 blades to 3 blades(stock props) was 6 mph. But I had Darin do the ACC package and give me about 300 more rpms in the Mirage plus props and so far I didn't gain anything. We have had high river here and rough LOTO conditions so I really haven't got a good run in yet. No pics with either props but the 4 blades the nose plowed all the time and I could never trim the nose up thus the speed loss. The three blades now I'm sure at the 70+ mph speeds there isn't much of the boat in the water. I talked to Mercury Racing and they told me never run 4 blades on my outlaw with the lower x dimension(2000 model) and they were right

Re: What do you think?
I'm running 30p labbed bravo's.
The boat had all the junk ( weight) in the cabin removed then, ( during the shootout) so in all actuality, under normal conditions, it's not running that bow high. jt |
Re: What do you think?
Do you have a pic with all the stuff in the cabin at WOT?
What did the boat run like before you had the Bravo's labbed? Did you feel the boat lift up out of the water when trimming up. I don't. What is a better at bow lifting the bravo or the Mirage Plus. Throttle Up thought I needed the Bravo but most of the baja's I've seen run 3 blades? What are where your slip #'s with the unlabbed bravo's and what are they know? Thanks Russ |
Re: What do you think?
Try a 24" Turbo Vector.I'm about the only one I know that runs them,Baja hulls seem to like them.www.precisionpropeller.com

Re: What do you think?
I don't have any more pic's ( digital or scanned)
to post. ( harware trouble :D ) It does run a bit more "wet", but not that much more. You can feel the nose lift when you hit the "up" button. I've always had labbed props on the boat, I don't have a comparison ( but, labbing usually doesn't create any more lift) Bravo's are advertised to be more of a "bow lifting" four blade prop.........I would say they are......compared to a hydromotive. 3 blade round ear style props ( mirage/ laser/ turbo)usually give good bow lift. ( usually better than the 4 blades) My slip #'s are in the 14% to 15% neighborhood. I had a 24 turbo on my 223 bandit, it carried the nose well. Your in Texas right ? Give Darin @ Houston prop a call, theres quite a few satisifed customers of his on this site. He should be able to fix you up. jt |
Re: What do you think?
I will sound like a broken record here to some of you, but you might have alot of luck with a 23p Merc Revolution4. That is by far the best prop for my boat, 24 Outlaw that will run close to 80gps with the new motor.
Lifts the tail end up and helps it drive alot better. Fastest prop I tried as well. I bet I only have about 4 or 5 feet of boat in the water at wot and trimmed out. Good luck. |
Re: What do you think?
Got a pic of your boat running at WOT? Pics are worth a thousand words.
Are the bottoms of the outlaws the same as the performance series? How far is your Bravo drive mounted up from the bottom of the V? Mine is 5 1/2" Did you have your prop labbed? Or what changes where made to it? What are your slip #'s? How well does it carry the bow? Do you have hook in your Hull? How much HP do you have? Sorry with all the question. |
