212 Islander Porposing

I bought a '97 212 Islander this spring and was finally able to run it at higher speeds last week (without screaming wife and kids) and could not keep it from porposing above 60 (speedo). It is a 7.4 carb B1. I ran a 23 Mirage and a 21 Rev4 with about the same porposing results. It has Bennitt tabs which I have just left fully retracted.

I have read about the hull hook in Bajas but haven't measured mine yet.

Could the windage through the open bow be causing this?

I have experienced porposing at lower speeds caused by too much trim. This seems to be more of a higher frequency 'slam'.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave

I'd play with the tabs a little. I had the same problem with mine....97 Hammer and it just took some getting used to. My first run I was all over the place and it just took some "toying" with to get it right. I'd make some runs with the tabs adjusted in different positions till you find one that feels pretty good.

Re: 212 Islander Porposing

Try a Bravo 1 24 pitch 4 blade. It has a lot more transom lift than a Mirage and will hold the nose down better. I have one on my 260 and it works great. With a Mirage I always had to have the tabs down on holeshots and on flat water. With the Bravo 1 I never use the tabs to get on plane and only use them in rough water.

Re: 212 Islander Porposing

Thanks for the replys. I did buy a Bravo 1 prop on EBay (should be here this week). My drive is a 1.65 ratio (long story) and I am at the rev limiter (MSD@5200 ) real easy w/23 Mirage so I got the Bravo 1 in 26P. Hope it won't be too much. Will re-post after tests.

Again thanks.

Dave

Re: 212 Islander Porposing

I should clarify. I had been looking for a Bravo 1 prop for a while because I knew I didn't have enough w/ the 1.65 after a gear change. Glad to hear the recommendation for what I should have soon.

I plan to use the Rev4 21P for pulling the kids tubing.

Thanks.

Dave
