30 Outlaw in Powerboat Mag

Just got the new Powerboat mag in the mail today and after having lunch with Mike Nordskog on Saturday (while wearing a Hot Boat Mag T-shirt! ) figured I 'd better read it right away.

Nice test on the 30 Outlaw with 496 HO's and Bravos (also on the cover). Boy, I sure do like this boat a lot.

It seams a little pricey though at $165K. Especially when looking at the new Cigarette 30 T/S Vice with same motors and XR's @ $195K. I wonder how much they really sell for at the dealers. I know they wheel and deal but how much less will they sell one for?

I think you can buy a 04 with HO's loaded with a triple axle trailer for about $120k.

Re: 30 Outlaw in Powerboat Mag

$120K seems more reasonable. Still too much for me though! :(

Hey Tank, how come you're not in that thing already? :D

Thanks for the heads up on it. I didn't even know he had that boat. I thought he just had the Gladiator. It sure looks like a nice clean boat that is priced pretty reasonable. How fast do you think it goes?

I also talked to LS Jr about theirs as he will take mine in trade. I tried to PM you but it says you don't take PM's.

Still not sure if I want to make the jump all the way to a 38. I will have a storage problem with a boat that size.

That older "Gun" is super clean! Jeff buys and sells boats so that everyone comes out ahead ;) I'm pretty specific what I wnat though. I'm looking at L.S.'s boat too :D I just re-uped my membership, maybe that's why I couldn't get the PM.

You can pick up a 2004 30 outlaw with ho's and all the options and a triple axle trailer between 110k and 115k. I know where there are 2 for sale. Hot Boat magazine did a dealer/manufacturer exclusive poker-run on Lake Ponchartrain in Louisiana. There were several manufacturers represented including Sunsation and Formula. The boats were all in the same class. The 30ft outlaw made an excellent showing. You can read all about it in the Feb. issue of Hot Boat.

Why is it that Baja never takes a boat to these magazine trials with big power? I thought it was a good article, but would like to see what kind of numbers it would put up with 525's.

Probably trying to avoid too much sticker shock.

I'd love to see that boat with HP500s or 525s.

Baja did build a 30 with 525's. I actually got to drive it. Run upper 80's. I know they played with it and was running in the low 90's. The article was pretty good but I di not like the wording they used like "entry level boat". What, only a beginner can drive this boat. I think not. That boat rocks and there is no noised with the cabin door. Maybe they should try to drive it with the door open like everyone else. Just my two cents

Beast1,

I agree with you on the "entry level boat" comment. I do not consider a boat that is capable of running 80 stock an entry level boat.

I did not like the comment about the boat not dominating 2-3 footers. I am sure if you had other boats in the same class they would all be really close.

D

I know they had problems calling it an "entry level boat" because of it's sticker price, size, and total package....It's a nice boat for an entry level. But it was one of the upper level entry level boats and that is what it should be called when compaired to a new 38' + Cig, Fountain, OL, Skater, etc. etc. Even Cigs new "Vice" is called an entry level boat (by Cig!)....Don't get offended by the wording, being entry level isn't a bad thing. THey don't call the 40' Outlaw and entry level boat. Over 30 is experienced level (usually second boat owners) and under 30' is entry level (1st boat buyers)....for the most part.

I didn't see the comment about the boat not domminating the 2-3's but I can tell you my 24' hits that stuff every time I use it practically and hammers them down :D Ask Al, he's seen it run  :drink:

I had an H2X and have boated all over the country with it, Lake Michigan, Texas, Florida and NY. Let me tell you the roughest water being Lake Michigan and New York Harbor. Never once was a scared of the boat not being able to handle the rough water.

If my H2X could handle 2-3 footers and water taxi wake I would bet the 30 Outlaw could dominate 2-3 footers.

I don't know how a 30 rides but a 29 is actually kind of boring till you hit 4 footers.

That boat runs hard and Tank knows how to drive it! Shiat, we get 2 to 3's inside the breakwater! :D

Re: 30 Outlaw in Powerboat Mag

When they said "entry level" I think they meant entry level into twin engine boats, not boats in general.

Is anybody running really big power in a Baja? Like Sterlings, Phaffs, Zuls, etc? I don't think I've ever seen one. I'd like to see a 36 Outlaw with about 900HP per side!

That is sweet! 900SCs with #6s. Seams like it is priced pretty right too.

got a friend whos a baja dealer says there about 30% markup in the new 30 from invoice to list...that would put cost in the high $1 teens

Re: 30 Outlaw in Powerboat Mag

That 40ol supposedly was a demo boat and has alot of "baggage". I heard that it had the piss run out of it and that it has many more than 30 hrs on it. I would love to have it but I don't have that kind of checkbook.

Also I read about a 36 with 900's that is well into the triple digits but i have no idea where I read that.

There is a 420 ES baja in Port Clinton, OH that has trip 700sc cobras but they are being rebuilt and detuned to 600hp. That boat was 90+. It is for sale for about 150K but you could probably buy it for 135K-140K with warrantys and all. I have thought alot about it. It is cherry too.

You guys are killing meeeee. I've been to cigaette and seen there glasswork. Traded mine in for a Y2K 32'(30' at waterline) Superboat. Check the APBA records books. Superboats are the top winners. Fountain still hasn't beaten M.R.D. Express( twin 366ci.) . That boat was in the APBA hall of Fame, as the most wins in APBA history. A stock Y2K with a single 496ho goes 76mph, and thats GPS. You can even get twins to suit you fancy.

???

Superboats are fine boats with a great reputation. But....what's that got to do with Baja's?

Not sure of the point of this post!?!
