29 outlaw hook?

Why is there so much hook in the 29 outlaw hulls?

Re: 29 outlaw hook?

The 97's ( first year ) didn't have it.

My 97' would porpose at cruising speed.

My 98' ( with the "hook") doesn't.

As with any boat manufacturer, it's
usually there to correct the above listed
symptom, or to help getting on plane.

In all actuallity, the "hook"( I call it more
of a "wedge") is in between the chine and
outer lifting strake, between that strake and
the keel............ it's straight.

I've seen photo's of my boat running at
high speeds, and the area in question is
not in contact with the water.

So, for me, it's a non issue.

My 302 had unbalanced hooks and it listed like a mother f*cker, it spent an entire winter at baja and they finally corrected the problem, they took most of it out on both sides, I didn't see any real speed improvement but my boats a dog anyway. My .02.

.....Same hull, 3-4 mph faster ?
You lost me on that one.

Equally powered, I 've never witnessed
much if any speed differences between
the two.

Right before I got rid of my 97',
(with no hook)
I threw in a pair of 550 hp engines,
ran it at the LOTO shootout.

It ran no faster ( actually slower) than what my current
boat ( with hook)with HP500's does.

I attribute some of that to the lower
x dimension, and props we were using
then.

Taking the hook out may help free up
the boats that don't run over 70 mph.

Those that are running fast enough
to ride up on the outer strake will see
no gain.( the "hook" area is already out of
contact with the water by then)

Re: 29 outlaw hook?

We have 3 -302s with 454 mags they run 70 -73 ,and one 29 2002 with hook run 68 -71 it seem like 302 runs looser more bow lift. My opinion is its like having tabs down a bit.

Re: 29 outlaw hook?

I also believe the hook is there to keep the boat stable at speed. Fountain doesn't even put twin bbc's in their 29's. Baja is one manufactuer who has a stable enough hull to install the big blocks in that size boat. :evilb: :evilb: :) :) Does the new 30 have a hook??
