30 Outlaw is here

Hey guys, it appears that my boat has arrived and I plan on driving up tomorrow and getting it. Now we all have read, seen, and partaken in the discussions about the proper time to take the boat from the dealer.....ie.........all things not being cleaned, fixed or made right by the dealer before taking the boat. Are there any particulars that I should look for to make sure everything is right tomorrow, other than the obvious???

thanks in advance,
-Shoe

I purchased a new Baja a few years back. Check the Gellcoat for air bubbles. Also the floor. Sometimes they take them out of the mold too quick. Any thing can be repaired by a good dealer. Just go over it carefully as if you were washing it for the first time. Best of luck. More over they are good boats.

Make sure to take someone with you. A second pair of eyes helps.

Re: 30 Outlaw is here

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cannot wait to see some pictures!

Based on the few 30's that I have seen first hand I would expect them to be in really good condition.

Personally I have never had a boat, or any friends with other brands that something did not show up that needed to be done.

If I were you I would look it over good, note any problems and run it a few times before getting work done. Usually by the 20 hour service you will have identified anything that needs to be repaired and can schedule it all at one time. That is the way my dealer always wanted to handle it and it worked out very well.

Keep us posted.

Do they have Pro-Chargers in their future?

Doc,
I have waivered back and forth but at this time I believe I will stick with stock. Although I had extremely good luck with my last Procharger setup, I like the idea of not having to worrying about head gaskets blowing, changing oil as often, and things that come along with the modification. If I can get this boat to 80 mph, I would be happy!!!!

Shoe,

Stock power and a warranty are HARD to beat!

As for 80 MPH, based on the one I got to ride in with 496 HO's, it should do it just fine.

Enjoy!

Re: 30 Outlaw is here

Miller,

I assume you've seen my posts before in TBM and SW http://www.speedwake.com/upload/show...0&pagenumber=1
concerning my 30. Hopefully my problems were rare occurances.

Many flaws and problems from the factory, none of which kept me off the water.

If the boat arrived TODAY, I would be highly skeptical that it would be ready for delivery tomorrow. Reason I say that is I made the same mistake. The drives are on it but not the props. They need to check all fluids, test the water system, clean and detail it (and there is a lot of detailing to be done), the outside has to be buffed because the shipping cover causes blemishes in the gel, etc.

Try not to feel pressured to take delivery. If the distance is reasonable, I would drive a vehicle that could not tow it home, thus eliminating the temptation.

You will find things that you may not notice right away. Take your time, bring a friend and have them check it like they were being paid to find problems. Its only March, much better to have them fixing things now than in July.
If possible, do your checking outside where the lighting is much better.

Before I get long winded, I hope you find nothing wrong! That would mean, Baja is doing a better job at the factory or the dealer spent some quality time on it.

Good luck and enjoy!

Thanks Saleen,
Yes I am aware of your issues and that is one reason I posted this. I do appreciate your advice on this matter. The boat arrived last Friday and I will drive up either today or tomorrow and based on your experience, I will not bring it home if I find something not to my liking.

thanks again,

what i always do when i go look at something,if i'm not bringing it home right away, bring a camcorder take your time taping,go home watch the tape, and i always say,i didn't see that before or i didn't know it had that, pause, rewind and then down the road you can see then and now and then you have something just incase for insurance, good luck, dave

Shoe ...
I wasn't trying to to negative. Chances are you may find it impeccable. I truly hope so.

In time, there will be issues with things loosening more than likely. But if you have a good dealer my guess is most of what I had to deal with will be fixed before you arrive.

I can't see any pic's here, so be sure to get some out to the other places for me too.

Good luck!!

Re: 30 Outlaw is here

Well, I drove up yesterday and I didnt pull the boat back b/c of a few minor issues. I had ordered a transom remote and it wasnt there, ordered a gps speedo and it wasnt there, I didnt want low water pick up but the drives have both(side pick up and low water). Can I plug (bondo) the low water pick ups? The boat was just a little gritty so I requested to have the boat detailed, remote installed and take cost of gps speedo off price. They said deal.....so I will venture back up there next week. O by the way........ THIS FREAKING BOAT IS AWSOME!!!!!

I've got lo and reg water pickups on my xz's and haven't had any problem. Leave them as they are you won't suck up crap like the straight low water pickups.

Good to hear Shoe!

I'm glad the issues were minor(for some).

I'm thinking GPS speedo before summer too. Although some say it makes you "appear" like your going slower. :)

NOT advisable. They are there for a reason. The higher X dimension is rendering the side water pick ups less functional at high speeds. Just be extremely careful in shallow water or beaching up.

You will love those HO's. Best you can have without going blue. You will most likely have one or two issues with sensors not working properly. I had a crank position sensor go bad on one motor and an oil pressure sensor on the other. All warranty stuff.

Enjoy!

Re: 30 Outlaw is here

Shoe,

As for the combination low and side pick ups, they are GREAT!

I have always just had low and they can get you into trouble real fast.

The side only are not good enough for a performance boat at speed.

I was told by my dealer when I ordered the 36 that I would get both and that they would actually work together to purge out unwanted debris. I am VERY pleased with them.

Was in the exact same water, same place as a buddy last year at Destin and he got into trouble with just low water pickups, I did not have any problems.

Don't worry about it.

Hurry up and put the blowers on it, get married, then divorced and sell that one to me! Just kidding, unless you really do all that stuff. Bring it up to the Old Hickory poker run in Nashvlle in June. Go easy on it, Ken.
