This is a photo of a 23 foot boat.....yes, you can go fast in the ocean and have fun without having a 47 foot whatever.

Is that a tri-hull to the right of the picture?

Re: Ocean Racing

Yes..a tri hull...... that was the original Thunderbird boat co.

Later it merged with Formula, the boat on the left, and became the one company it is today.....interesting start, considering they only had to race for 185 more miles in open ocean.

Ocean storm running...

I sent that picture to my friend who is fighting in Iraq.

Him and I got caught in a squall off of the Isle of Shoals about four years ago trying to get back to port before the storm hit.

It started off as fun trying to see how long we could get the transom to skip across the wave tips after the whole hull came out of the water.

It wasn't long before I realized that the entire boat was going airborne at about 20mph.

Very scary when your thankful that the Banana Boat has a V shaped fairing to deflect the green sea water around you instead of filling up the cockpit... (how many gph is that bildge pump?)

Thanks Charlie...

It was after that trip, that I bolted on the wind fairings.

Not that it would do anything, but for some reason I felt better knowing I could duck behind something...

Thanks to the AMF people, some "Legends of Offshore" have been invited to the Point Pleasant NJ, race in a couple of weeks.

Rocky Aoki of Benihana fame, Billy Martin who will race that weekend, Bobby Saccenti of Apache and Squadron XII fame, John Bochis the Crazy Greek, Bill Wishnick and Doc Magoon have been invited also, but I don't think will make it, Jerry Gilbreath of Alcone fame and last of all, me too.

We really appreciate the efforts of guys like Haggin to keep us in the loop, and give the fans of today an opportunity to see that these old farts are still around.

Looking forward to seeing the many fans of open ocean racing and of HORBA too.
