Banana Boat 24 set up
 

Hi Guys,
Im new to OSO. Im happy/proud to say that I have just bought a Banana Boat 24 and will ship it to Sweden (home country, hope you dont mind:)). I have not yet received the boat. The ship leaves Baltimore today. Still I wright to you:p
My question to you is, what size of engine and what drives are best when rigging the boat? I wonder if I should look for a SB or a BB? Handling, speed etc. I want the boat to be fast but I also want my family to enjoy the boat. Not to raw...Somewhere around 60 knots?
Today it is set up with Mercruiser SB and Alpha One. I calculate with a change of this package....

Hi Mathias,

Welcome to the gang.

I would use what you have until you blow it up, then go looking for upgrades.

60mph is easy with any power you throw at it, but I would definately upgrade the drive to a bravo.

What boat did you buy? Year? Hull ID number?

I will start as you say by using what I have. Allthough I cant help my self from being curious about how the boat handles a BB versus a SB. I havent got a clue.
I heard from people in Sweden that the boat is heavy and will need some serious power to reach 70 mph:rolleyes:
Of course we dont have so much detailed insights about the boat (speed, handling, weight etc) as this is the first one to be imported:evilb:

Hull ID: BCV0027M83A. (is this the 27th boat built?)
Do you know it and its history?

As you already know, there are some stuff to do in order to get it to 100% shape again. As expected I might ad.

Perhaps Im to late, but yes, sounds like a great idea with you comming over. I plan to splash tomorrow, Saturday.

I would go with a fuel injected big block. Then a Bravo on an extension box. mount the engine as far forward as possible in the engine bay. Next would be to mount 380 tabs flat (parallel with the water line). Stable and fast.

+1 and everyone remember Pasta is looking at a target speed of 60 Kts not Mph, 60kts=69mph...

Pasta didn´t they have a 80´s 500 EFI for sale att WMT a while back :-)

That boat will take care of you in water that you may fear to tread in lesser boats.

If you have any other friends over there that like the boat, we just took a very clean 24 in on trade, against a brand new one. The trade in is an outboard with a 225 Mercury....photo below.

We can sell without the engine if that workls better for your friends.

As you already have understood Im not the most experienced one when it comes to topics like this.
I said to my self, Better ask "stupid" :stupid:questions on this forum than to ask them after the job has been done.

No one has mentioned the extension box to me before. Will check it out.

I took the boat for a spin this weekend, it felt great!

Actually both me and "Mange" has already :) informed people about the 24 you have for sale on a Swedish boat forum. Would be fun to found a Swedish Banana Boat "Team":)
