is there a minimum hull length?
c/c allowed? so to get the Aronow Trophy we have to spend $62K on a specific new Banana hull package? I like the idea of the class all running the same boat now checkbooks dont win races. My only question is what is the plan to keep the o/b's from being turned up and modified. Josh Wish my Banana was a couple of years newer like 33 to be exact. |

If you are asking about the big event races....Miami to Key West and the Around Long Island race, there is a minimum length of 20 feet. Yes, center consoles are allowed. Look on the HORBA site, under racing, and you can see the various classes, all the way up to Canyon Runners...70 foot diesel monsters. Yes, the only boats that will be competing for the Aronow Trophy will be the HORBA 24 and 28 footers for the first 2 years. After that the 35 and 41 foot sterndrive class boats will be made available. The outboard manufacturers are going to be responsible for checking each others "stock" engines. They will assist the HORBA officials, just the way it is done in NASCAR. If somebody wants to juice up their engines, there are plenty of places for them to go and race somewhere else. This series is designed to be equal in equipment....the crews will make the difference. |

How about if I had an old Merc 225 carb motor, and had it modified to 250 without any internal mods such as an ECU, and carbs using stock merc parts?? |

This series is for new engines.....2009 and up. That is how we are getting the engine makers to help back us. They want to promote to the public that the new engines they build, are capable of running 185 miles of open ocean and making it with no problems. This is what the sport was in the beginning.....each builder competed against all the others to see who come make it....as we all know Mercury came out king...BUT it wasn't always that way, so who knows who will come out on top this time. |
Joker powerboats I believe is building there 26 footers to race one class=one boat= one motor IO and drive also so , unless they chanced there mind. that was like 48,000, that would be cool having 3 new classes out there with your choice big blocks or outboards. I would bet that the 28 banana with single big block big power would be fun.:ernaehrung004:.

You can still race in the Horba races just not the eligible for the Aronow Cup. Check out the site.http://www.historicraceboats.com/futureraces_.htm
I will be racing in these and not the Aronow Cup since my boat is a little older than 2009. rchevelle71 I am in a 1976 banana wana race me? 76 Banana vs 82 Pantera sounds like a challenge. Josh |
so what hulls are considered HISTORIC and what hulls are HISTORIC REPLICA?
|
I understand that historic boats are boats that have raced in the past at least 15 years ago with any of the organizations. Historic Replica are boats that are over 15 years old but never raced. I am sure Charlie will weigh in here soon and correct any mistakes i may have made.
