Latest on the Banana Split.

Started life as a Yellow boat and is now ........yup, after all the new boats we just built in this color, my son wanted to redo it in the original color of Don's 32 foot Cary race boat, The Cigarette.

Boat is finished with paint now, has a new deck, new stringers and bulkheads and a new fuel tank.....off to the shop for rub rail installation, then interior, windshield and some engine work (it is a big block)......then it will be watertested by Bobby Saccenti who will give us his impressions.

The plug boat is on 95 North heading back to RI for the new deck plug....the 28 hull will be delivered to the same plug shop next week.

Now that the paint shop is done with this boat, the BENIHANA is going in to take it's spot and that process will begin finally. It has been a long couple of years finding the right pieces and having them be period correct.

We must not forget that even if you are a professional, even you Charlie could surely appreciate a "pad on the shoulder" after working with the boat.

What BB-engine will you use?
This engine room Im very intersted to see.
Perhaps I may borrow some of your thinking on placing pumps, sea strainers, wiring etc, etc?
Horse Power?
Expected speed?

Guess thar the interior will match the color of the boat. Anything you could tell us about? Dont remember if you have informed us about if you will keep the sit down bolsters or make it a stand up.

Modern or old school dash incl throttle and gauges etc?

Thank you.......All the credit goes to my son in Florida. This is his project, he found the boat and decided all the resto decisions, while still keeping the tradition alive.

You have to remember that my "other hat", beyond boat builder, is that I am the Chairman of the Board, of a regional bank here in the Northeast and in today's economy that takes a bit of my time.

My son wants to keep the boat as old school as possible and that will mean, that it will have sit down seats on pedastals. The interior will be designed and executed by Fineline of Miami, they do a super job and will use the latest in materials, but still give the old school feeling.

Matching the color scheme will be our new logo in red accents.

Motor will be gone through and tweaked with some modern touches added and enhanced, but he still wants to use the TRS drive to keep the old school look and..... that will limit horsepower and prop selection.....and top speed.

But hey, she is an old girl, we just want to dress her up and take her out for a Sunday spin....in 6 footers LOL.

As far as wiring and rigging, we build all the boats just as if they were going to be raced (many production boats were) so the wiring and rigging will stay the same as we did it 30 plus years ago.

The boat is at a subcontractors now and they are playing with some ideas for the engine hatch.....maybe taking a cue from the old 24 race boat and the Kiekhaefer air scoops we used back then.....same look, but modernized......????

Maybe, lots of ideas going around....I am just as anxious as everyone else to see it finished.....and maybe he will sell it then and start another project...who knows??

Well guys, it looks to be almost ready for the acrylic work and rigging...Maybe next week it should be out of the paint shop...But, here are a few shots of the almost finished product being done by the FIBERGLASSMAN...Great work and tremendous paint scheme...ALL WHITE...

Looks really good Joe. Now you have to focus on the all important details as it comes together.

For just a little extra money, look into using Aeroquip lines for your fuel lines.

Aeroquip is so much tougher and safer than the standard rubber lines.

Look at the photo of the engine in my avatar to the left here....even back then we used Aeroquip lines and we never had a breakdown because of a fuel line problem.

Is the engine going to be blown? Thinking about the idea of the engine hatch with scoop...

In my humble opinon, if not blown engine, I would keep the original look as it is.
If not needed (for an other unknown reason to me) with that much air and space.

Dont misunderstand, I really like thees old scoops.
But only on boat which will need it.
