16 to 22ft Boats
Hey Top Banana,
I checked out Cigarette's web page and I suspect they have not produced the 20ft for quite some time now. Heck the smallest boat they show these days is a 38ft. I've also heard rumors that Donzi will now longer produce the 16ft and 18ft Classics and the 22ft may also go away soon too. Do you have any thoughts of adding smaller boats to your Banana Boat line? I've owned a Donzi 18' Classic and a 20' Minx in the past. I have been eyeing a couple of 20' Cigs but for the price the newer ones go for you could buy any number of brand new boats. Thanks, |
i have a 1979 20 foot sutphen for sale the boat has a new cas tank & paint job surveyed in 2006 if interested contact me my email address is [email protected]

Thanks, We could pull a 20 from the mold with cut down sides, but it would be a one off that would have to be custom built. Anything is possible if the interest is there $$$$. |

And there is the problem........builders found out that you really can't make any money on the smaller boats.....so, they stopped making them.

It's too bad the classic little boats are not being built anymore. Does the 20' Cig mold still exists? I guess you're suggesting you could build a 20' from your 24' mold. I am in the market for a little classic to run the CT river and add to the mix. I guess it will be an 18' Donzi as there are a few out there for a reasonable cost. Thanks, |

I would cut the sides down to the first break under the rubrail and power it with a sterndrive...probably a 496HO with the CMI improvements up to 500 HP. Seating would probably be the classic 2 in front and three in rear bench seat with a sunpad on the engine hatch. Low windscreen on a perfectly flat deck with no hatch or rail. Tuff does it with their 27 footer, (below) nice and low to the water, brings back memories of when I first started boatng, just low simple boats, but fast. |
That Tuff28 is a great looking hull. and very fast- 90+ with a stock 525.
I prefer the low/simple boats too. |
That Tuff looks like a 27' Mag witha new hat on it's head !

We are all grateful this boat came along and we have all enjoyed the many grandchildren ever since. We have the whole history of the 28 from the beginning on our website, under products, under 28 footer. www.bananaboatco.com |
Don was definatly the Great Granddaddy of alot of boats ! I have enjoyed alot of days on the lake in one of his designs.

Pat, imo the new 21 sut is the sweetest little one out there.
You could always get a 21SB, progression, or a little activator. I'm sure you know all this though. |

Pat,
If you are willing to consider non-traditional options there are many many choices from the West Coast also. It depends on what your needs are. When you say Donzi and Cig, you are talking non pad V's. Also, do you want mild or wild colors? Many options out there right now in the < 23' range and especially if you only want I/O power. |

Pat either look for an olderr 20ft Sutphen or the new ones are amazing. They are just of every bit nice as any 20ft Cigarette and run extremely well. Go for a ride in the Blue 21 and you'll be amazed!!

I think well see the return of the classic 18-21ft boat in these new a and different economic times. Worked fine for your Dad/Uncle for a loong time.
Ive been to Catalina from Long beach/del Rey in 21ft boats a hundred times easily in 20 years on regular days no problem. Easy on the wallet, tow vehicle, space, and surprisingly competent and fun when built correctly. Yeah there's no big money in em, but there is money. UD |
Pat, as we all know Howard builds a quality boat and you simply do not see many Offshore 23's around. That CalCool has big power in it and wild graphics. Give us a few more parameters Pat in a smaller hot rod and we'll hook you up with options!
Would you really go down to 16', I tend to doubt it. Lets say that the minimum is 18' and max is 23'. How much power do you want in the I/O package or is the "look" more important? |
Now if you will consider an eggbeater ..........
How about a super rare DCB 22 Extreme? This one was built 18 degrees with a pad, closed transom and closed bow plus jumper seats under the bow for the little ones if the weather kicks up. Not the wave crusher of the Howard or CalCool but super fast and easy on the fuel. Sorry, I forgot I/O onlyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy !! |
Dan, I don't like the older 20' Sut and a new one is too much $$.
My budget will be the $$ I get if/when I sell my Velocity. We've talked about owning two boats and it really does not make sence for us. Yes, a 16' Donzi would be too small and the 18' would also be on the small side. An 18-22 foot old school V bottom that can handle some rough water, as well as pull a skier now and then, is what I'll be looking for. I/O for sure, small or big block does not matter. Thanks for the input everyone...:cool-smiley-027: |

Pat,
If you have to have an I/O, you'll loose some space in your desired length. I think an open bow might be in order! Maybe a 1992 Hallett 210 with a full 8' beam ........? Or if you want rumble seat front with true 24 degree V a 1995 CalCool short deck, only one ever built ........? That Howard is down to $12,500. But it will be gone is 60 seconds! |
