If you want the gearcase to live I would get rid of the nose cone and go with a hull mounted pick up. There is also one other modification that I used to help cool the bearing carrier. I say this because if you can not get water at the OEM pickup the water can not get to the trim tab. The trim tab puts green water directly on the bearing carrier to help cool it. The nose cone insulates the oil reservoir area causing it to overheat the oil. Filling in the OEM pickup also blocks green water from removing heat as well. I have melted the propshaft seals out of mine in twenty minuets and these are the areas I had to address to rectify the issue.

Sorry. To clarify "green water" is the body of water the boat is in and not the aerated water near the surface "white water" that can not remove heat.

Thank you for all of your valuable information guys.. Currently the lower unit is off getting a water pump, seals, prep and paint. Should have a porta on order within the next month and we'll go from there. Thanks again and im sure ill have more questions coming.

I have a 250 merc on mine I run a 4 blade 21, boat runs 65 at 5600, I am still looking for the right prop
