Getting ready to restore
just started restoring hull #19 and curious what speed I can expect out of a 5.7 with between 260 and 300 hp. I'm converting from a trs to a bravo drive. The boat will be fairly light as it will have no cabin interior just bare stringers. I'm also wondering if anyone has the ideal x dimension for this setup. Thanks guys.

The other question I have is cutting the cockpit floor out for fuel tank access anyone know if it's bonded to the stringers or not?
|
Fuel tank is foamed in place.
|
Thanks for that cutting decks tomorrow.

Don't forget to document the build... would love to see photos of your progress.....

Floor is not bonded to the stringers and if you haven't cut it yet, its easiest to cut around the perimeter of the floor. There is a thread about fuel tank replacement somewhere in this forum. A small block with 300ish hp and a bravo will get you around 60 mph I would imagine. I have hull #23 with a TRS and a 454 truck engine that runs about that.

Very nice, what are you doing for power?

sp123 did you buy this boat from thread starter Joshm?...........wonderful transformation & having photo opt with Banana boat builder/racer Charley McCarthy cherry on top!
|
No ... I bought this boat from another party but I wanted to share photos... Charlie was very helpful in this build. It will have a single 300R on the back as I realize I will not be able to keep up with all the boats one market today but I just want the grandkids to have a fun boat that is economical to run. Another issue I ran into in getting a motor is that there is no max hp tag on the boat. no dealer would even quote me a price as they claimed insurance regulations would not allow them. Also I was told a 400 was approx. 3-4 year wait and I waited long enough for this. my first builder had the boat for 5 years and not much was done but two checks were cashed.....

Impressive perseverance and the photo with Charlie tell it all. I bet the grandkids will be very excited about this ride and hopefully, in 50 years one of them will pass it on. Love the colors, but then I'm partial.
