I was just wondering what folks were running in their Banana Boats. My 1990 with a single 225 mercury ran approx. 52 mph and my 2008 with a single 250 etec ho ran 63..... just trying to get an idea in case I ever get another one what engine options I would go with.single or twin.

So if a single 300 HP was able to get into the 70's with an older and heavier layup.......what will a new single 400 HP outboard do?
And to add some "What if's".... to the question, since the boat ran so well in so many different combinations with twin 200's back in the day......What if you added a couple of new 250 HP outboards with the new slick lower units??????????
Of course you would have to do your part and keep the boat simple and light.....forget the kitchen sink and the hot tubs and the kneel down shower in the cabin.
Maybe, just maybe, this could be a very quick boat that could possibly outrun something like a big 30 foot Sonic with twin stern
drives....what do you think?????

I just built a set of 2.5 200s. Bored .030 over, decked the block .025, cut pistons .018, shaved heads now getting 155 psi stacks reeds lightweight flywheels av gas. Took it on the lake a few weeks ago once the ice broke. 77mph on gps still for to go. Running 27 mazcos with cles. Still need to play with jetting and cooling system may wait until weather warms up.
