Locks

Has any one used the drive and props locks before.I think McGuard makes them.I saw them at the store today and was thinking about buying a few but I'm not sure how secure they are.Can I use two drive locks per drive or do they not have any clamping power compared to the regular nuts used?

Thanks Nordic95

Re: Locks

Same thread pitch, similar material and thread engagement, so at a given torque the clamping force should be close enough.

I use a drive lock and a prop lock. If nothing else, it'll slow them down long enough for me to load my shotgun.

Re: Locks

The drive locks are good.
There are mixed reviews on the prop lock. There is no way to use the locking washer and people have lost props. If you can pull the props while the boat is stored it is a better route to go.

I use the drive locks, because a couple of years ago somone swiped 2 trs drives off of a fountain in the 1000 islands. I just bought 2 prop locks from Fred. http://www.trickmarine.net/productde...?productid=359

They actually have keys and you can use the locking washer so you don't have to worry about the props getting loose. You can't beat the security and they look good. Just a thought, pain in the ass taking off the wheels everytime.

I have the drive locks on my Bravos. Other than forgetting the key once when I dropped it off for service, :o I don't even know they are there.

We will be releasing a new Prop Lock in abount 6 weeks time. It uses the Merc. Lock washer and it is superior in design to the competitiors product. We are finished with all of the Merc. applications except for the Number 6 drives and the Blackhawk and Bravo 3 drives. This lock has been proven and patented for about 10 years time, it was never marketed on a mass scale.

The following webites should be up in about 4 weeks.

I have to give Craig at Sternlock some high marks. I ordered drive locks, prop locks, and a trailer lock from him. I incorrectly ordered the wrong trailer lock, and he sent me out the correct one, even before I had returned the first one to him. Even though it was my own fault, he didn't charge me any extra shipping. Thanks Craig!
