I went to get the boat out of storage Monday... took the cover off and much to my disgust...

all of my stereo gear gone!

2 subs w/custom boxes
lots of cut wires

my buddy's boat had all his stereo equip stolen too...

havent talked to insurance yet, but the deductable is $500... and i have no idea how they value couple year old stereo stuff... over $3000 invested... we'll see i guess

not cool

Let's hope they buy drugs with the money they get from the stereo equipment, then overdose and adios!!!!!

That's why I never buy things off of these traveling salesmen. I was in a parking lot a few weeks ago and some guy in a van pulls up trying to sell me stuff. I said NO. I pulled around got his tag # and gave it to the first cop I ran into.

Re: The Sound of Silence

thats why I built a big storage building outback and stuck my Smith & Wesson sign on it. All the toys are pretty safe in there. double dead bolts
and a steel door. have not done it yet but I will put some more motion detectors on the rear and sides of the building.

you hit the nail right on the head...

the deputy said that the area has a lot of meth heads and that the storage facilty's owner's son and grandson are into drugs and have had problems with the law... apparently it was an inside job.

Too bad dead bolts don't really do anything. Two swift kicks and that door will be ripped right out of the frame.

Motion detectors, firearms, and dogs are where it's at.

Re: The Sound of Silence

no its a steel door with a steel frame fastened to double 2 x 6's on each side. I actually tested it for the kicked in method. It was a used older factory door I got for free. I have it swinging OUT. No windows in the building at all. I bet with a cordless sawsall and 5 minutes you could cut thru the wall in the back.
Im sure a good running start with a 6x6 post might take the door down.

if you really want to keep them out solid concrete block, super duty doors and avoid windows. Couple nasty dogs would help too or alarm

if they want to get in bad enough they will get in.......you can only slow them down or make it too much trouble that they give up

Most of the time that scam is not actually stolen goods but they lead you to believe that it is hot so you think you will get a good deal. Your greed sinks you when you find out it is new junk like you would find at a flea market. They just have a mobile flea market. I know a guy that sells a ton of stuff like this, all cash and perfectly legal since stuff isn't stolen.

I just signed up so I could read some of the interesting forums that are on here. I can't view any members profiles and I can't access anyones pictures. I can't even view the photos that you guys attach in the forums. Thats a "members only" area. But I guess I can still post on the forums. I'm sure there are some forums that I can't view also.

I bought a new Kenwood head unit am/fm, cd, mp3, satelite ready at etronics.com. $600 everywhere I looked, got it online for about $450 if I remember correctly. No problems with delivery and all equipt is new.

9524cs,
Sorry to hear about your misfortune.

I had a similar situation, but the losers left my stereo components alone and f^%$ up my swim pad trying to unbolt my intake/carb and my CMI's on my previous Wellcraft. Something must have scared them off-I was sorta lucky. After than I rigged a simple house window alarm to my boat cover center securing line w/ 8" of rope changed a battery alarm would go off. Went off a few times after that I assume the offending pieces-of-garbage-punks gave up.

Re: The Sound of Silence

Just picked up my boat from indoor storage yesterday. 2 of the 8 speakers in the cockpit area were gone- the subwoofers. Nothing else taken or vandalized, very neat thieves. They left greasy footprints on the sunpad and seat that probably won't come out, but I consider myself lucky it wasn't worse.
