AVAST antivirus problems
 

After researching problems with Trojans I have discovered the 12/03/2009 update that avast ran is causing major problems by identifying false Trojans. It will identify most .exe programs as Trojans. Go to the Avast website and check the support forum for more information. I have decided to not react to the Trojan Horse warning as the forums are full of complaints (1000s). Please use your own judgment but realize that you are not alone if you start getting multiple warning from AVAST.

Every so often I have a pop up warning that says my PC is infected with dozens of Trojan viruses, and to DL a program to remove them. The warning looks like a legit Windows Securtiy popup warning, making one belive the warning is real. 1st time I bit and caused me weeks of aggravation. Had to reload my OS after I wipped it clean and reload all my programs and files. Since then, I've installed Norton. That same warning window popped up last week, but my Norton didn't even flinch. So I just closed that 'fake' Windows popup warning window (which just keeps reopening another window, persistant buggers!) and never had any problems. Just don't DL the program they want you too to remove the viruses.

this just happened to me yesterday!!!!! I couldn't get rid of the warning or delete it or put it in the vault???? I just shut down the computer and went to bed. Its working fine right now....

I have been using Avast for about 2-3 years with no issues. Avast doesn't consume large Amounts of Resources Like Norton or Semantic do ....and its free .... If you do ever get the Malware infection go to www.majorgeeks.com ....
Look for the malware removal thread in the Forums section and follow it closely to remove all infections ... I run the Anti malware cleaners from time to time and it really cleans things up and keeps Computer running cleanly ... these are ALL free ..... Malwarebytes , Superantispyware , CCcleaner .....m

I haven't had any problems in a while,I use to go to some foreign forums:eek:,its hard to read German and Russian:rolleyes: theres a bunch of diff Russian versions of there language.

could it be coming from something else?

I have avast on assess scanner,Malwarebytes anti-malware,and run spybot and Auslogics defrag,all free.

Nothing is set to automatic.

When it automatically updated it fixed the problem. It was an update to the definitions that caused the problems.

Ahh I love my Mac!

Been using AVAST for 4 years now on an XP machine, then on a Vista Machine, and now on a Windows 7 upgrade to the Vista machine. Never a problem with the virus software, but then I do not frequent the type of sites known for being problems (free software, free virus, free CDBurner, anything free, other than AVAST.)

I don't know about AVAST, but all of a sudden, out of the blue, I got what appeared to be an anti-virus program randomly appearing on my screen, running a scan. Same drill, click here, you're infected, yadda yadda.

I knew better, and called a buddy who is in IT, he instructed me to shut down, restart in Safe Mode with networking, do a system restore to a point at least two weeks prior, and then download the newest version of Malwarebytes and AVG and run them both. So far I haven't had a single issue.

Apparently, all these programs are designed to do is scare little old ladies into believing their computers are infected, passwords being stolen, bank accounts accessed, etc. - and as a result, they click on the popup and download and pay for the "antivirus" program.

Just my .02 cents.

If you ever see those pop ups you need to shut it down with the power button. Anything else you do will start the program doing it's thing. You hit the X, or anything like that you are done!

Yup. Found that out the hard way. In reality, like I said, boot back up in safe mode with networking and its a pretty simple process. It's very handy to have a friend who has a bachelors in computer science, with specialization in forensics and recovery!

the internet security 2009 was an easy cleanup for malware bytes, but the 2010 one is ugly..google internet security 2010 and it wil take you to bleepingcomp.com and you can get the free download from malware.... use it weekly and you should be fine, spybot will get the tracking cookies, malware for trojans.
