Jasper Engines
is anybody else out there having trouble with these in a marine application?we have had a few failures lately and they don't want to pay our labor for fixing their mistakes.
|
I have used them in the past for auto's and had some fail and had no problems wilth the warr labor.Boats are prob a whole diff ball game though?
|
I did a few years back had to eat 2500.00 in labor...But I guess you can't expect them to pay for taking them out and putting them back in...
|
when i had my auto repair shop they paid me to R&R a hurt engine once hell they even had the replacement engine sitting at my shop before i had the hurt one out and a buddy that has a shop they have paid him to replace an engine in the same car about 3 or 4 times now i bet if you called them up and started raising a little hell they would help you out unless the shop has been getting paid from them and you ?? he could be double dipping on the labor ( i am not saying he is by any means just asking more or less ) Ed

i think i would call jasper before you say anything and ask them what their policy is on labor for a hurt engine and specify that it is on a boat
|
Well that was at least 5 years ago so it's a done deal.
|
Sure they will replace their faulty motor(so will a junkyard) .They might pay some r&r .I think jaspers are over-rated and over priced.I like to use motors that we are pretty certain are only going in Once.I probably would use one only if it was the only motor available.
|
I have used them many times and they pay parts and labor, never any issues.

Usually they will agree to replace the engine and then when they get the bad motor back and determine its defective then they will pay for labor ....m |
I have installed several Jasper Marine engines into boats, only a couple failures and they paid my labor and had the new engine at my shop before I had the old ones out. When you do the volume that Jasper does theres going to be a few problems, I've even had problems with local guys that had good reputations and they used excuse after excuse why it wasn't their fault.

Never heard of anyone using Jasper engines for a marine application. Not sure i would advise doing that.

If it's in a boat it's gona break...not just Jasper, merc's break too

I had problem with Jasper on a 502. I had a cracked block they were to find a block machine it & reuse my crank, rods, cam, etc. What I got back was some chinese crank that looked like they tried to balance it after heavy jaggerbomb usage. The bearings were trash everything had so much clearance I cant see how they got any oil pressure out of it, & charged mee 8000.00 to boot. I wouldnt touch them with a ten foot pole!!!!!

Jasper Marine???
We have used Jasper many times for truck engines and have been somewhat happy. We have had failures and problems and they have always replaced the faulty engines or parts without a problem. The issue is with always getting R&R from them. They fight that sometimes. I think they build an above average engine and transmission for a truck/car, but I would NEVER put one in my boat. Too many other good choices for that application. My 2 cents.
|
We've never had an issue with Jasper covering a claim, we don't go over the class II engines with them either. For big HP we use other builders. But we are pleased with the lower end stuff.
|
I have not been burned by them because I wont use them. I know of a few marina owners that have been burned by them. It only ended up making that shop look bad & it made for a pizzed off customer. I have also heard many other horror stories like the ones posted here.
For me the writing is on the wall, steer clear of there and places like there.. As someone else said there are other options that dont have the drama & dont have as much risk involved. I would rather be boating, I know mu customers would too.. :) Jamie / Lakeside |
For guys looking for 7.4L, 454, 502 basically stock marine engines who are some of the other suppliers with good reputations and similar costs ?

We have some offerings, although we usually get into more custom applications. Also there are also other advertisers here too that also I'm sure offer replacements. ;) Jamie / Lakeside

I took apart a jasper 302 motor a couple years ago. The cylinders were cut 20, 30 and 40 over with matching pistons. Couldn't figure out why they would do it that way being it was more work. To top it off they had 5, 289 rods and 3, 302 rods in it. Must have been a real thumper when running.
