Adam Larson and Jacob Nelson

Adam Larson and Jacob Nelson are alias names used in a boat scam on Ebay Motors. This person has fake emails from eBay and a spoof eBay website. He took me for $2,900.00. This person has been turned into the FBI and is on criminal records across several different states to Include Kentucky, Indiana, New Jersey, Nevada, and California. The scam is to get you to send a deposit through MoneyGram or any other form of wire transfer. NEVER PAY FOR ANYTHING through a wire transfer no matter how good or bad the deal. Online purchasing of any sort does not support wire transfers. Once you put the money into a wire transfer, kiss it good bye because you can not get it back.

wjb21ndtown 02-25-2010 09:30 AM

And never use an unknown escrow company...

Try to pay as often as possible with a credit card, and where not possible offer to pay with Paypal ONLY. At least Paypal is a reputable escrow company (a company that takes money and doesn't fully release it until both parties are satisfied). If you're buying anything online and you offer to pay the Paypal 3% premium and the Seller balks at the transaction, it's probably a fraud. Remember, IF they're selling something online they HAVE access to a computer. At that point there is no reason not to take Paypal.

+1 to that. :drink:

I bought a piece of equipment end of the year off ebay. The guy was upset how much he lost for the ebay and paypal fees. But I felt comfortable in buying it. I only pay with paypal and on a credit card. I like double the protection. To many people out there that will screw you in the blind of a eye.

Brad Zastrow 02-25-2010 01:22 PM

There was an ad on Oodle with the exact same setup and words only it was my boat a 28 Pantera. This person stole my Ebay Ad and copied it and listed it on Oodle which is free. I had three people call me asking why I was selling the boat so cheap. I reported the listing as a scam and it was removed.

n20michael 02-25-2010 03:10 PM

Great advice guys!

I have always tried to pay with Paypal myself, I actually went one step further, I applied and got a 2nd credit card that I ONLY use for online transactions, I have it specified that the limit is 1K and is NEVER to be increased [odds are pretty good if I am spending more than 1K I will actually want to see the item in person and/or buying it from someone I can "trust"] That way if the card was to get compromised the most it can be run up is $1000, plus, I usually carry a balance on it which would limit the amount of scammed money.

I have also found that if ANYBODY balks at actually showing the item in person, then, its a SCAM!

I looked at a couple of waverunners and an ATV that sounded like "good deals", when I Emailed and found out where the item was located, I said "OH, I have a buddy that lives just outside of there, maybe I will swing over and have a look"

INSTANTLY the "seller" started giving me this excuse about the item being already crated, and how he would ship it to me, but, wouldn't be able to show it to me since it was already at the shippers, and he was out of the country on business, or some BS story like that. I have heard of several other people who have almost gotten scammed like this, so, much like it was BEFORE "E commerce" its BUYER BEWARE!

The Ebay scam is a common one, a lot of times they will hijack the account of a good "seller" so, when they place the fake ad [or hijack yours] is shows them as having good feedback and being longtime members. These are easy to spot, since they usually have a section that asks you "NOT to contact them through Ebay, but, to contact them direct, usually followed by a "Gmail" email account, or something similiar. On some of the really cheesy ads you can actually SEE where they have "copied and pasted" a different ad. Pretty sad when people are that slimy, dont know how they sleep at night.

Almost scammed by him, too!

This guy, Msgt. Adam Larson of the Air Force base in NJ almost had us fooled, too. My wife did a simple Google search of his name on his email reply (which was nothing like his Oodles logon "Dahn T". He used the exact same wording (although this was a PAIR of Honda 2007 jet skiis with combined value of less than $4k....for both! Way too good to be true! That was the 1st red flag, especially when he wanted to ship them both from NJ to GA free, including insurance for a 5 day inspection. If we tried them out and declined to buy, then he would pay for their return to NJ! Really???
I am grateful that others have taken the time to post their same tentative scam situation. It took over 11 min. just to register on THIS site, but I hope it will be worth it to expose this fraud. We have reported it on Oodle, too, so we will see.
We are not finished with this guy until someone catches up with his phony act!

Apparently this guy has switched from summertime activity scams to wintertime scams. I have him online right now and he's been trying to 'sell' me an '07 Skidoo for 2300.00. I knew it was a scam when he requested a moneygram and told me not to tell anyone that I was purchasing something online! OMG! I originally found the sled on Oodle.com and when I showed interest he was too kind and offered to sell it to me thru Ebay motors. His Ebay motors web page is a pretty good fake. Anyway, as I said, I have him online right now patiently waiting fr me to send my Moneygram. Is there anyway we can catch him so he can't do this to another person? Btw, he's still using the same name, Msgt. crap and location in McGuire, NJ. I am so po'd at this jerk.

Subject: Re: 2002 Sylvan 24ELITE $5,470

I'm in New Jersey due to my work (i'm an Air Force Msgt.) and i have the boat here with me. I can deliver it to your shipping address (i will pay for the shipping and insurance fees) and i will agree to let you test and inspect it for 5 days just to be sure. In this 5 days you will test the conditions of the boat . If something won't be like you expected to be you can return it without any expense. It will come with all the paper work. The payment will be made after you will test and inspect the boat.

I can post the item on ebay with "Buy It Now" price, I can list a private auction just for you on eBay.

The deal will go strictly according to eBay's rules and policy, all you have to do is proceed with the buy it now options and follow the steps.

If you agree with these terms I`m waiting for your reply as soon as possible.

Thanks !

Thank goodness my son is smart enough to pursue checking things out that are too good to be true and no money was put in this crimnal's hands from him!

Cazrep 07-07-2010 02:52 PM

Almost got me too!

Thank you all for posting this information! Oogle is a pretty dangerous place to shop.

Hello,

Sorry for mailing you so late!
I'm glad that you're interested in my boat. The boat is in good condition, has no technical damages at all, no scratches or dents,no hidden defects. The boat has been looked after very well - washed and cleaned every two weeks. The interior is in virtually spotless condition. The seats are clean and not torn. The exterior is in excellent condition. It comes with all the documents needed for registration, it has a clear title and it can be registered into your name at any time. There are no known problems with the boat as far as I know.

The total price is $8950 including shipping and delivery taxes to your address.

Wonder if he is using a second name or has hired help. I just got this email in response to my question about a car for sale for my son.

"Hello,

I'm SGT Wayne Vega. My 1999 Honda Accord is in perfect working condition, this detailed vehicle makes the exterior look like it just came off the assembly line The car have only 62,500 miles. This is the second time when I try to sell my vehicle...First time I tried eBay because every time I only use 100% safe methods and I've sent the vehicle through the eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection Program to a buyer from Alaska. I paid the shipping and insurance costs and when eBay requested the payment he refused to pay. Why? ... because he agreed to purchase the Vehicle in the first place, but typically didn't had the necessary amount to do so. ...if you don't have the funds available, you can't get the vehicle. For the time being, my vehicle is on eBay's hand and it's ready to be delivered to the next buyer. My price on it is $1,800. The eBay auction ended last week and the guy from Alaska was the winning bidder. He could not pay for it. I need a new buyer to register to my eBay transaction. I am in Camp Pendleton MC Base in training, getting ready for Afghanistan . The vehicle and its documents are in the DAS auto shipping warehouse waiting to be delivered. My wife just gave birth to my forth kid; I need all the money I can get to leave to her. Also, I hope to sell the car before we depart to Afghanistan . It's fully paid for, fully functional, the title is clean. Shipping, insurance and eBay fees have been paid since the previous transaction. I am a member of the eBay buyer protection program and using this service you will get a 15 days testing period after delivery. The transaction will be made only through eBay. eBay will be the third party that will hold the money till you will receive and inspect the car. If the car meets your expectations and you want to keep it you will have to tell them to release me the payment details so I can get paid. Reply me with your full name and shipping address so eBay can contact you regarding the payment and shipping process.
Let me know your thoughts,

SGT Wayne Vega"

My 2007 Kawasaki Mule 3010 TRANS 4x4 is in perfect working condition, the exterior look like it just came off the assembly line. The atv has only 202 hours, clear title. This is the second time when I try to sell my atv...First time I tried eBay because every time I only use 100% safe methods and I've sent the atv through the eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection Program to a buyer from Florida. He paid the shipping and insurance costs and when eBay requested the full payment he refused to pay. Why? ... because he agreed to purchase the atv in the first place, but typically didn't had the necessary amount to do so. ...

I'm an US Air Force Sgt. currently stationed in Rota Air Force Base from Barcelona,Spain in training, getting ready for Afghanistan. My brother from US works for DAS and he will take care by the shipping.

The atv and its documents are in the US at DAS auto shipping warehouse waiting to be delivered. My wife just gave birth to my forth kid, I need all the money I can get to leave to her. Also, I hope to sell the atv before we deploy to Afghanistan. The atv is fully paid for, fully functional, the title is clean and clear.

The total price will be $3000 including shipping, insurance and ebay fees since have been paid the previous buyer.
It is very important for me to know if you have all the money to buy it or you need to get a loan for it. We will use eBay protection program for our safety and for payment I prefer to use an eBay Managed safety account.

Thank you

This was a reply from a Craigs List Ad that I responded to. Don't know if it's the same guy but it for sure a scam. Note the email address and beware.

I reported this joker when I tried to get him to dedicate a address to see the Donzi he had in Tx. He wrote back a few times saying his wife would bring the boat over for free and I could use the boat for a few days, but when he said to use paypal for the payment that would be not given out until I oked it with paypal, I knew I had him. He then wrote that I need to send the money right now because he worked on a oil rig in the Gulf and wasnt going to be back for some time. Come on people. Anyone can spot this type of scammer without even a thought of using paypal. Just talk cash and see what the answer is. I hope you get your $2900 back but as it is said <<< IF IT SOUNDS TO GOOD , IT PROBABLY IS
