So, Jim's point was that I, as a dealer, should not sell Bill's product because he'll back-door me and sell direct?
No Problem, I'll get right on that...Hello, Rolls, hello, Eagle, hello American, hello, SoFl Trailer, hello, Myco, hello Target...and the list goes on... |
He may build a good trailer but his customer service sucks.I large boat dealer not to far from him has problems getting a response and parts from him go figure!!!!! Always call the customer back no mather what
|
jim.h - My point is that by selling to the customer direct, he IS the dealer and its his responsibility to deliver a working product. I'm fully aware of dealer responsibilities. I got "porked" by my dealer on my new boat last year. It cost me close to $700 to get those repairs made because he went out of business. If I would have bought it from the factory, it would have been their responsibility. PT sold direct to the customer, its his responsibility. Whether or not Bill is a good guy or not is not an issue with me, its just the business transaction and the outcome. Steve

This whole problem was stupid to begin with !!!! 15 minutes with a 12 volt test light & I woukda found it !!{and i am NOT a mechanic!} Same problem on 2 trucks ? Duh...not the trucks!!! Trace it back & you end up at the lights !!! Duh! Fix the damn trailer!!!! Sell me somthing NEW and it should at least work when i pick it up !!!!
|
Sean - Thats one way to look at it..... However... being from LI you should be painfully aware of the dealer loyalty boat Mfg. have! Your gonna chastise PT for what every "reputable" performance boat Mfg does on a daily basis.... Come on....
|
Not chastising...just pointing it out...in fact, I'm not even the one that brought it up...(okay, maybe I was chastising...but you guys have been saying what a great guy Bill is and yet it seems he is going around his dealers by selling direct) :)
I don't know why you single out Long Island though, I think the industry as a whole has received the proverbial black eye from many manufacturers all over the country for this type of behavior. If you are referring to Superboats, I think he only sells factory direct...and I'm not sure what Kryptonite, Hustler and Activator do, but I do know that Cigarette was severely beaten up back in the 80's for selling through the Everglades back door. |
Sean - I did not intend to single out LI.... Certainly not John & SUPERBOATS... I have nothing but good things to say about SUPERBOAT & yes they do support thier dealers .... I refered to LI because there are so many Performance Offshore Boats there ... not as a negative to ANY boat Mfg there on LI.... The only one I have expirience with is SUPERBOAT & mine came from a dealer in NY near Binghamton.... which is where John refered me....
|
Gotcha...
Do you down this way? If so, look me up, we'll take the boat to Claudio's for some coca colas... |
Sean - I plan on coming down Sept 14.... word is there's going to be an "informal" SUPERBOAT gathering.... I'd appreciate following.... as close as I can anyway... somebody around that new the area....
|
It sounds like it will more than likely be on the South Shore...ahich I know nothing about except that the waters are shallow and unless you follow the bouys, yer gonna end up high and dry...:( :(
|
I'd like to avoid that if possible.... When I find out more about it I'll let ya know.... Your right .... I can't keep up with one thread let alone two.....

I had the complete opposite experience with Bill over at Performance. I had bought a 97 Baja Outlaw 33 in 2007 with a 2006 Performance tri-axle trailer. After a few months of using it the drum brakes seized up on me. I was posting on here about my experience and Bill jumped in and installed 3 sets of kodiak brakes for me at the cost of the hardware only!
So perhaps since this post in 2002 things have turned around at Performance Trailer! -mike |
YEARS AGO -- Talk about interesting trailer people!!
I was working for a consulting company doing quality management consulting. I was asked to visit a trailer manufacturer because they were noticing a very high incidence of broken tail light assemblies that were being put in a "snowmobile trailer". I arrived at the operation and was met by the Plant Manager and the Head of Quality. They both said the same thing-- couldn't figure out why the lights were cracking. So after a cup of coffee and listening to these guys - I said well let's go out and see what the issue is - they were assembling the trailers while I was there. I watched the "assembler" take a light assembly place it over the hole in the bumper and tap it with a rubber mallet (this was the same process they have used for the last 10 years)-- and guess what-- it shattered in front of my eyes. NOW I CAN'T MAKE THIS UP (I'm not that smart). The holes on the trailer bumper were round and the light assembly portion that would fit into the bumper was square. Yes -- they were trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. I immediately looked around for a hidden camera to see if they were recording this - thinking this was the ultimate practical joke -- NOPE -- They restated that they couldn't figure this out. I smiled and explained the problem - and they finally got it--- Came back to the office in about 1 hour (including travel time) case closed 4 hours billable time! 3pointstar |
Must be able to pass a drug test was not on the job app.
|
The dealership I worked for bought hundreds of trailers from performance over the years , Never ! I repeat never had a quality control issue !! Great people !
|
We have ordered several new PERFORMANCE trailers from Bill and his crew for new Outerlimits. All showed up on time, fit and towed perfectly. Sorry you had a bad experience, mine was always pleasant.
|
Well I really think the Op got shafted twice. Once by the trailer company that has no QC. And second, by his mechanic. Any mechanic should have a simple VM to check wiring . My god its a 10 minute at most test.

WOW, a 14 year old thread carries on as if time stopped. That's a bit unfair!

I'll second that. Haven't heard a complaint about Bill or Performance Trailersl in 11 years & 11 months ,
I'll stick my third in here for Bill, as we up here call him Trailer Billy. I have had two of his Performance trailers and sold many of them. Never an complaint here. Bill does a good job at a reasonable price, sometimes hard combo to find these days. |
ya awesome product, and guy, I miss my trailer from my 271

More comments than not on here now are supportive of Bill and Performance Trailers, so why do the powers to be not just take this down and be done with some many year old rant from a chit head that obviously is no longer paying attention to the chit storm he tried to start.
Come on people, take this kind of chit off this site, does nothing to make it better. Simply makes it small minded. P.S. Anyone bother to look here? This deal started over some petty chit back in APRIL of 2002. My finger count comes up 14 Years ago! Really people, you do not feel this should come down rather than doing some harm to a decent businessman. |
Speedgirl, Can you Kill this Thread , Thanks Bob Jordan
RaggedEdge has a point , More comments than not on here now are supportive of Bill and Performance Trailers, so why do the powers to be not just take this down. |
Why should the post come down??? The thread is not in violation of any OSO rules.
It shows one bad experience from one customer in 2002. It also shows several positive experiences from later customers. OSO is a forum designed to share information. Just because its an old thread, does not mean it will be deleted. |
it is so funny how the powers to be decide on what threads to delete.
|
Bet if it was a 14 year old thread about a current OSO Sponsor it would go POOF.
|
They are very quick to delete some things. I put a thread up a month ago about swapping motorcycles for boat parts. I got deleted with in 2 minutes.
|
yep, funny how things work out and some thread stay up and maybe shouldnt and others that should stay up go POOF!
and some wonder why some of us do not renew our membership,oh well |

The OSO member who started the thread has not been active since 2008 , I remember when this was first posted up years ago then went to sleep after the subject ran its course, Recent positive posts have dredged up the subject and the the symptom he described was a ground fault issue most likely with the tow vehicle, Like said above no other posts have been bought forward and I feel its time for this one to go away. Recent activity by performance trailer to my knowledge is they are building trailers for OuterLimit's Customers I have seen a few boats locally with a Performance trailer under them, My thought is this is a Housekeeping issue .My.02

I also had great luck with performance trailers. I had one under my checkmate that was great. I have referred a few friends to them and they were the first ones I called when looking for a fountain trailer (found a used one luckily ). They are also very reasonably priced.

June 1, 2016 we made the purchase. Would love to hear from you!
|
Congratulations on the purchase, I have a Performance trailer under my 42 and love the ease of launching and loading. I had contacted Bill in the past and he was more than willing to answer any questions that I had, You're starting out with a great product and with new life in the company I'm sure things can only get better.
