Kind of makes you wonder why his boat was firebombed in the first place.

I have an idea.....if his bank is not local, find a trusted member that has the same bank branch near them.....send that member the check and have them go to the issuing bank with that check trying to cash it. Maybe eventually it will have enough funds to get your money.
I had a lawyer follow a payroll account for someone that owed my company money years ago and emptied the account in the hours between a deposit was made and all the employees got off work to cash their checks....bet they were pissed when all their checks bounced!!!

Do they even have water in Albuquerque?

I guess I am a little confused, their is noway a bank would pay to have a boat repaired with that fire damage, they would total it (nor would a customer want it repaired)???? SO why would a customer send the bolsters off to be repaired. I am not scond guessing here, but their has to be more tot his story, as for the check being bad, well that sux but maybe they can sell the seats and recover the some of the money.
