Hardly!!!! Perfect description of SOS!....the c+s guy's have found a place too weak to get rid of them. SOS current dismal dollar value would decrease if they did...to nickels, dimes and pennies.

I have to say one thing because his name was brought up a few posts back. Brooks has only been very kind to me and my significant other. He has been VERY generous and has asked or implied needing anything in return. I am not going to say anything more. I just wanted to let the record stand as I see it.

And to think this 153 pages is summed up in two words.
1. crooks
2. scammers

Which is why Brooks should never stoop so low as to join in with the mob of one or two against Jay. I guess the old saying..."class isn't something you buy", stands up well here. Shame on you BBB..

Would someone care to enlighten me on what specifically brooks alledgedly said/did?? I have never noticed him to be involved in messes/internet politics.....

See the screen cap from post 1497. They have gotten pretty volatile in some of the threads. He has done a significant amount of Alec/Jay bashing of late. Which frankly surprises me but I don't know him well enough to say anything more. There are more if you search his posts.

It isn't a haven for anyone because no one is left.

In the beginning it felt like a site for powerboaters, by powerboaters. The 'powerboaters' being like minded people instead of a major corporation (IB). Just like OSO was when Steve owned it... only better because it had more of an 'us' feel even to the average member.

Now what place does Serious have? What point does it serve? No one feels like it is going to help give us powerboaters a better name through charity, that's for sure. No one wants to spend the time making it better because it is tainted. The major difference it had in the beginning is completely blown... now it is just another forum at best. Relative to OSO and a few other sites out there it just doesn't have a place because it has no where near the membership, information, or anything else.

But they do have the "Ho's", the "Queen on Bammin", and the "Official raise your post count thread'. Useless banter and useless posters. Period.

I have met many in person and many more online that are good people, an asset to the sport and have become friends. I just don't want it to become that any involvement as a member of that site immediatly constitues the wearing of a scarlet S on ones chest. True there are some that need a big 'L' tattoed prominantly on there forehead, but by and large most were/are good people.
I feel fortunate at the relationships I have established as a result of being there. The most unfortunate aspect for me is the loss of what it was, to the basic member.

I think both of you summed it up very well for me. Most of us were innocent bystanders (except when I had to open a can of internet whoop-a$$ on Forrest Gump) who joined SOS for personal reasons. But the fraud exposure threatened to take away the appeal SOS had over "corporate OSO". When SOS didn't excise the fraud, there was no reason to choose the small SOS over OSO.

I feel I could still visit SOS without fear or reprisal or having to choose sides, but why bother? It didn't grow the size needed to rival the potency of influence of OSO. At the same time, coming back to OSO it's obvious they cleaned up the internet speed issues and other matters that originally sparked the foundation of SOS.

Most everyone that was enjoyable to read and interact with at SOS have come back to OSO. So what is the real reason for SOS, besides apparently serving as a shell of what it once was AND an echo chamber for the clinically schizophrenic.

it served a huge purpose, to weed out another liar and scammer and thief that was trying to take lots of people for small amounts under the guise of an "offshore expert"

I'm done with it. That's crazy that Sunkin lied about owning all those boats and bilked a children's charity.:angry-smiley-038:

I believed the guy, his stories seemed credible and were very well written. I don't boat in Ohio so whether or not he had a barn full of boats was unverifiable to me......

But when it got posted he had over a dozen high end boats despite living in a very modest home and was the dirt bike expert posting pictures of his bikes on the site (pics that were scavenged from other sites), the "treble damage" lawsuits that others found to be minor suits that he actually lost.....the wheels came off real quick. The eye opener was the kid's charity and the lost/bounced check, once that was exposed the whole thing crumbled.

pasquesi 12-09-2010 06:47 AM

I wish I had the time to put together a Powerpoint presentation showing all of Sunkin's posts. God the guy came off like the expert of all legal issues. Clarence Darrow Sunkin. Sadly, I think some of his advice was sound. That advice loses ALL of it's credibility once you know where and who it came from.

The bounced check was an oversight? The overdraft notices were never retrieved from a "seldom used" post office box? Anyone who actually still believes this guy is a complete fool. (I believed his rants initially) Including the tough guy blowhard from New Jersey who also garnered respect here for unknown reasons. Oooh the New Jersey boys...I'm so afraid.

I think Tex wins the CSI OSO prize..he called Sunkin out way before this poop hit the fan!

I read weird news through Fark.com and I stumbled upon an article in a newspaper in his neck of the woods and he was heavily posting on that newspaper site... replying to most of the articles.

The guy's modus operendi never changed.

While 20 volunteers were putting their best efforts into making his site work he was off doing his usual scam efforts on the internet.
Go to site 460ford.com and see his typical act.

Start off with Newbie questions and within 18 posts he's trying to sell parts to suckers. POOF ...he goes missing.

Same as the knife site, same as the motorcycle parts site.

Small time scammer, nothing more.

VtSteve 12-09-2010 08:51 AM

Must take some real pride to hang with a guy like that. Is there anyone left, other than the few that don't care, that doesn't think he's just a con?

VtSteve 12-09-2010 08:56 AM

BTW, anyone ever see any change over there in regards to ownership, servers, the new head that isn't?

Glad someone is, I don't have time myself, been home a total of 14 days on and off from the 1st week in August.
Flying today from Houston(could be great fun with the weather) then off to W. Va.
Keep up the good work my friend:drink:
