Soundwaves

Anyone else have any dealings with Soundwaves? Having an issue and trying to give them the benefit of the doubt but they haven't communucated very well. Beginning to get the sensation of being played. Hope not.

Sound Waves in New Baltimore, MI ? If so yes and never again! You pay good money expecting a quality installation and I guess that was too much to ask!

Didn't get a very clean installation from them either. Price was adequate but they didn't do everything they said they would. I wouldn't use them again.

+100 that is the same thing I was thinking and I called them to fix everything and was put on the back burner. No problem I got it all fixed some where else and moved on but I will never send a friend or anyone there. I was fine with towning the boat back to fix it, you would think they would roll out the red carpet to fix it rather than make someone mad but oh well!

hotjava66 07-27-2010 07:21 PM

Wow, almost used them this spring, glad I didnt! The guy I used took forever though, and still hasnt fixed my bugs so maybe its just the stereo business in general. Seems like you cant find good installers anymore

gare 07-27-2010 08:28 PM

Maybe I should have asked before I used them, lol. Live and learn.

My issue with Soundwaves

Here's my issue with Soundwaves. I ordered a JL Audio MHD900/5, two pair of 7.7"components, and two subwoofers third week of June. Got email couple days later that they only had one subwoofer, but would ship whole order a couple days later when they received it. My card was charged for full amount on 6/24/10. I received nothing that week. The following Monday I received two subwoofers and one pair of the 7.7"components that were missing the tweeters. I then proceeded to get about a two week run around before anything else shipped. I then was told everything was on it's way. I received an Alpine deck I was foolish enough to have them add to my order and the other pair of 7.7" components(this pair had tweeters). So was still missing a set of tweeters and an amp and July is about over. They finally decided to ship my tweeters and said the amp was on it's way. When I received the shipment it was a M400/4 and a M600/1 set of amps instead of the 5 channel. The separates are actually rated a little less RMS wattage(irregardless of what's insinuated by model name) and retail about $160-$180 less than the MHD900/5. I was never informed of the substitution until I received it. Since some of the order was already installed I wasn't prepared to ship it all back. The owner agreed to refund $150.00 but hasn't done so. He also has never sent a receipt or Bill of Sale. I have since disputed the amount charged with my card company and have file a complaint with the Eastern MI BBB. All I ever asked for was a receipt and for them to communicate. We could have worked the deal out over the amp substitution if they could communicate. If things weren't available or were back ordered they should have just said so. Very, very frustrating experience. Won't be worth the frustration to do business or should I say try to do business there in the future. Guess I learned a lesson; if the deal sounds too good....
Sure sounds damn good though, lol.

rlj676 08-02-2010 08:35 PM

I thought they had a great rep, I believe I read that on LSCN.net.......

I think I got fair pricing, but they did not show up when they said they would to do the work and cost me an afternoon on the water. They also did not do an exceptionally clean install, with wires left dangling a bit.

I was not thrilled with the overall deal, but wasn't totally angry either. Looks like it could have been worse.

I've had some frustrations with Mickey Shore in RO too on car/truck installs and have been back a few times, so maybe I'm too easy going, or all stereo places are flakes!

gare 08-02-2010 09:52 PM

I just can't figure out why I can't get a receipt from a retail establishment and a refund for the agreed to amount for the surprise amp substitution.

hotjava66 08-02-2010 10:02 PM

Something must be up with JL because i wanted a MHD600/4 and got a M series six channel instead, said the other was on backorder and they would swap it out when it came in, that was 2 months ago.......

fantastixvoyage 08-02-2010 11:15 PM

Hey guys a buddy owns Boattronics (www.boat-tronics.com) Local installs, great prices, comes to you, etc etc. Another option for ya.

gare 08-03-2010 06:22 AM

Thanks Fantastix. I'll keep them in mind if I need anything else. Pretty well done with the install now. I didn't bite on the swapping out later. I figured that was their way of getting out of the refund. Doubt I would have ever seen the MHD900/5. Of course, they still haven't paid the 150 dollar refund they agreed to, anyway. Now it's just a matter of them not keeping their word.

sunsation96 08-03-2010 07:41 AM

I would not sweat it, they will slowly loose customers...

Ebay Ed 08-03-2010 07:53 AM

juust do a charge back on your credit card that will wake them up real fast

Man you know a guy for everything!

I had good experiences with Autoway in Madison Hts. Michigan. They did my system with JL and alpine and
I am very pleased with there installation and service and the sound. They were very reliable. They will do installations on location or at there shop. They are two brothers Carl and Dave that own the business that are in there late 40s, so you won’t get any young hack kids working on your stuff.

gare 08-09-2010 06:17 AM

Well another week has went by and still no receipt or $150.00 refund. I see a road trip coming up first rainy weekend.

arush 08-09-2010 07:15 AM

not sure if you know this or not but they moved to a new location on M59

gare 08-09-2010 09:09 AM

Sure did but thanks, arush. That's why I was as patient with them as I was. I'm sure that was pretty hectic. However he did make an unauthorized substitution in equipment that sells for less money than what I paid for and when confronted, agreed to refund $150.00 and said he would send the receipt I never received.

sideline 08-09-2010 02:54 PM

Thanks for the info

After reading the posts, why would anyone even think of using Soundwaves.

gare 08-09-2010 04:21 PM

Well the advertised prices are why they are chosen but if you don't get what you ordered and can't even get a receipt, it's definately a one time shopping experience. I can deal with delays, back orders, lack of availability, whatever......I just don't like being lied to.

gare 08-17-2010 07:44 PM

Latest and greatest............just received an email from the Eastern Michigan BBB. They did not respond to their inquiries regarding my complaint. Kind of speaks for itself. I was hoping they would respond with at least some kind of explanation. They still owe me a receipt(which I'll never understand that one) and the $150.00 we agreed to for the equipment substitution.

natelee 08-21-2010 02:31 PM

there horrible

I had my system put in about a month. I haven't got so mad in a long time. They quality of work is about a 0. They didnt show up when they were sapost to, wouldnt call you back. They had 4 different guys working on it nobody new what was going on. They didnt have the correct merchandise to finish my job. They put in a used gps sythem and didnt tell me. I wouldnt recommend them to anybody.

Nightlife1970 08-29-2010 11:59 AM

Well I see these kinds of things from shops all the time. They are used to working on cars and boats just are not their thing. Then you have guys that were just into installing systems that start a business and have no clue how to run it.

Anyway if anyone is looking to get a system installed. I live in south west michigan area. I can install any system you want. All I do is consult with you on what equipment you want to use, you get the equipment, I will install it.

With the way prices are on the internet, I can't get for any better price. That is why I just install the systems.

I have been installing systems on boats for 20+ years. Infact I think I have done more boat installs than cars, and I used to build IASCA compition cars. Installing is not my main business anymore, but I can still get the job done.

gare 08-29-2010 07:52 PM

Well natelee, sounds like it's their normal way of doing business. I think people should really communicate about these shady business practices.
In my situation a receipt for what I got, $150.00 that he agreed to refund and a little communication is all it would have taken to be a good business deal and he would be getting recommended by me. We have a couple more big boats in the Peoria area that want systems at least on par with mine. He will definately not be getting the business. Actually, Automotive Innovations in Davenport, IA will be.

Nightlife, just curious if you would be interested in making a road trip if we could coordinate a couple installs at the same time?

Gare

Nightlife1970 08-30-2010 05:03 PM

I'm sure something could be worked out.

gare 08-30-2010 09:57 PM

Looks like a Carver 33 mariner, probably similar to my set up. I have two pair of M770 components and two 10"subs. Amps are M400/4 and an M600/1.
Not sure on the other boat as far as what they're looking for. I'm just not going to have time to pull wires. Rest is easy, lol. I'll give ya a shout when I know more.

gare 09-14-2010 11:04 AM

My review on Lake St Clair was never posted. They review it first. I stayed objective and only stated the same facts I stated here. I'll try again.

Sleepy, if I call the number you gave, who should I ask for?

sleepy_pirate 09-14-2010 07:33 PM

I am the only one who will answer. Make sure you leave a message if no answer. The phone gets really bad service when I get close to the ang base....
