Have you seen me ?

Does anyone know Jim Lyle or Ray Vinson III from Ofallon Missouri ? I answered their ad in oso (# 34526) for a set of props. On the TEST run one threw a blade. On inspection, it had either come off or cracked very badly before and welded back on. Whoever fixed it was very good, and therefore should have known that it wouldn't hold up. $5000 later all I get is his voicemail. I will post some pics as soon as I learn how to shrink them.

microsoft has a program you can download to shrink photos......or simply email them to yourself and save the smaller/emailed file.

VSO image resizer, you can resize from a right click, will save resized as a copy so you still have the original, and you can do multiple at once... say you have 300 piks on your card that you import.... you can highlight all 300, choose the resize, say 800x600 and it will do all 300 at once while saving the original piks in the original size..

WOW ........ that prop really came apart I hope that blade didnt hit your boat or anyone/anything. can you tell if it has been welded ???

omerta one 07-29-2010 10:22 AM

Vinson owns the Batman MTI, keeps it at LOTO. I heard he threw a blade a couple of months ago...

He has a good reputation at the lake.

Sick Stinger 07-29-2010 10:50 AM

Did it eat the drive from the vibration it caused. Not sure if it would be the same principal as a 30 motion with OB's. He blew the lower on it due to loss of a blade and the vibration. Sorry to hear that though

The drive looks OK, but I won't know for sure until I get another prop and try it.

Fastination 07-29-2010 11:25 AM

It appears the prop has been welded. The shiny s/s from the surface inwards dictates this (the heat affected and penetration zone). Had the prop been fractured from the outside inwards the color observation would be the opposite. This is normally what happens. Now, had the prop been welded with the proper joining material, process, and complete penetration chances are the repair would not have failed.

Hopefully this helps

Dave

He doesn't have a good reputation here. I think he is a piece of $hit.

Plowtownmissile 07-29-2010 04:16 PM

They're local guys from st. louis. Might wanna try www.midwestboatparty.com as they're on there more than here. Shawn Vinson's dad owns Vinson Mortgage in St. Louis and Jim Lyle works/worked for them. Hope things get resolved between all parties.

Actually, this thread will interest you.. Memorial Day pics

How much power are you running?

Yup, nice weld schedule on that one. Probably used a Harbor Freight 110vac GMAW machine.

Going to retract this (P.O.S.) opinion ---- for now. I don't know Ray, and for all I do know, he may be checking into the situation. I just think that he should get in touch with me so we could resolve this.

Fixxxer22 07-30-2010 01:09 PM

I know its crappy to make assumptions.... but I'm betting that he knew that (if the prop was for sure repaired) the fix was temporary or not gonna be his best bet for his boat. prolly crossed his fingers and sold them.

What does the batman MTI have in it for power?

It's easy to see where this is heading. Check out the emails.

While you were busy posting crap on here I have been trying to call you. Your board posts on here don't bother me a bit. If you would like to speak to Mr. Vinson feel free to call me back. That is the reason I have been emailing and calling you. Guess I should have looked on here first. Not sure how much he will be willing to work with you now. Nevertheless, feel free to email me or call me.

Jim

I kinda agree with you.........doesn't look like a weld to me at all.....just a bad prop.

Funny, my phone doesn't show any missed calls. You didn't seem interested in returning MY calls, but I will call you later today.

Props don't break from the inside out and leave a clean new break only on the outside edges.

You are quite correct dbl trbl. A simple metallugical analysis would confirm this. The chemistry from the weld material and the substrate would illustrate the incongruency.

Update

Finally got to speak to Sean (Ray III ) this afternoon, and he agreed to a full refund when I send him the props. Waiting for email confirmation of this as well as an address to send them to.

It looks like a bad casting on the prop.....like a void.
