FedEx...what a friggin joke....
So for anybody that cares.......I bought a Procharger from a site member who sent it overnight via FedEx, in two boxes because of the weight.
Sent last Thursday to arrive by 5pm Friday......from CA to south BC in Canada. I track the shipment online and by mid day Friday see that it has not left customs in Vancouver............I call FedEx and after numerous transfers a lady tells me they need a form signed to give them "Power of Attorney" to act as my broker....as required by customs? I explain to them that it is not required by customs but perhaps an in house requirement...??? Despite that, I asked what they need for me to get my two boxes...? They email me the form, I print it out, scan it and send it back......the items are not cleared until the end of the day Friday so too late to be sent until after the long weekend, so they tell me I will receive them Tuesday.....I then find out that because I live in such a "remote" area they sub-contract the delivery and they are not sure when I will get it....I tell them to hold it at the airport and I will pick it up in person on Tuesday.... I drive down to the airport, 2hrs away after checking online to make sure the items are there to pick them up......I am handed ONE box, I ask where the other is, told it is still in Vancouver......WTF? On top of that, the box they give me has a number of three inch holes punched in it with obvious damage to the contents..... I pay my $300+ "duty" "taxes" and explain in no un-certain terms that I would like to have the second box delivered to my door tomorrow, I didn't care how they decided to figure that out.... Basically bad gone to worse and I know FedEx is a big company that really could not give a rat's ass but I needed to vent, thanks.... |
.....I then find out that because I live in such a "remote" area they sub-contract the delivery and ....
I know you are understandably angry and I hear your vent....but they DID get the remote part right:party-smiley-004: |

well the could have used UPS (universal pulvirizatin services) and they would have lost one box and delivered the other busted open, half the contents missing ad the other half smashed beyond recognition.
I had a 6' piece of 1.5" .120 wall cromoly tubing show up bent before. The ups rep tried to tell me it was improperly packed. |
fed ex sucks, thats the bottom line!
|
Fed-ex and UPS have proposed a merger, the new company will be called Fed-UP

You guys dont know how to pack thats all.
I couriered a homemade pie to Nort 3 weeks ago and it was perfect !!!!! He has pics to prove it. |
Everytime I get a fedex or UPS to me here in SIngapore (from the US) they send it to China..doh.no wonder your moving to third world status
DHL actually knows where Singapore is. I'm f**ked if I know how your pilots ever get here? What makes me really laugh is they have special decals when the parcel arrives in China, to redirect to Singapore, so clearly they know they cant train the monkeys. |
Fogducker,
If you are going to import anything and you want the process to go smoothly, you need to open an account with a customs broker prior to the goods being shipped. A signed power of attorney is a CBSA requirement and no responsible broker will overlook this. Choose a local independent broker that can clear your goods regardless of how they are shipped. They will give you straight forward advise and do things right. Using a courier's inhouse brokerage service is a mistake, but given your circumstances you really had no other choice. Phil |
No matter how it is packaged the monkeys at UPS will break it and they will always say it wasnt packaged right EVEN if it was packaged at a UPS store!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have purchased numerous items from the US....big and small. From boats to coins.....NEVER have any problem when it comes via the good ole USPS and is handed over to Canada Post at the border.....on top of the normal taxes that I have to pay, I get charged $5 for "brokerage fees" by Canada Post........can't beat that when UPS, FedEx, Purolator etc ding me anything from $25 to over $75 for their "brokerage fees" which is a joke because 90% of the "paperwork" is done electronically BEFORE the actual item even hits the border!!!
What I found is that most people think you HAVE to have a broker, WRONG, an individual can act as their own broker when personally bringing an item across the border, all they want is the tax money....... PS. I am currently sitting at home STILL waiting for my second box....... |
i ship a lot of items out of the US to all over the world and i always try to use the USPS if the weight is not to much as the paperwork is a lot less of a hassle UPS wants to know the last time you took a sh!t on their paperwork but given any chance UPS will destroy your item Fed Ex rates are rediculous DHL is a complete joke and the USPS will loose your item if given a chance but i use USPS and UPS exclusively

Is it a hassle for a US citizen to buy a used boat from a dealer in Canada - any additional costs in getting it across the border?
|
They all suck! it just depends on how much you want to deal with! We just got a motor returned from UPS that THEY damaged during the shipment. It never made it to the customer!! They did their "inspection" and determined it was packed properly! BIG SURPRISE!!! Funny how the motor made it to us in Chicago via UPS from Brazil with no issues yet they cant do a domestic delivery to PA without damaging something!!!
And i would never believe it if anyone else told me this, but one of our regional sales guys that visits NJ has witnessed first hand as a UPS guy drove down the block and THREW the package out the door of the truck never slowing down at their feet as they were coming out of the building!!! CRAZY! |

oh heres a pic of the damaged motor....they busted a cast iron foot off the motor! This thing was wrapped to a plywwod board with that shrink wrap seran wrap stuff and then double boxed with extra thick cardboard. The box looked beat up but whole....you open the box and the plywood looked like it was put through a wood chipper and the wrap was split in half...and it was like 10 layers around or so...

I have not done it into the US but I would imagine it would be similar to bringing it into Canada.....title and bill of sale for both boat and trailer, fill in a Form 1 at the border, pay your taxes and your good to go.....

Taxes!!! Tax on a used boat? What taxes do you pay and to whom, Canada or customs for duty - anyone know what exactly is involved?
Title/registration for the boat and trailer, a bill of sale for each, an importation form filled out and "sales" tax, GST HST or whatever it is called in whatever state or province the boat is being brought into.....here at least, some of the tax goes to the Feds and some to the Provincial government, basically 12% of the purchase price..... |

ive sent fedex envelops into a drop box for next day or overnight delivery at truck stops and put my credit card number ON the package because I dont get home for months at a time....I got home last fall and had about 5 collections bills for the envelops I used...they didnt even use my card number I wrote down in the spot that says "card number"....instead they billed my house, and since I didnt get it within 30 days, they sent it to collections...
If you guys ever watch how fedex drivers drive, youd understand why your stuff gets broken all the time. They dont call double and triple pup trailers "wiggle wagons" for nothing!! |

Living in Detroit which is the only major American city on an international border - we have come to know the issues - first don't try to sneek anything over the border - get caught you owe your life - second Canada may seem like its own country its not - whose pic is in the post office, on the money and who's crown is on all the car licenses - the queen - and God save her!
No mail fraud enforcement in Canada - we come to expect business integrity in old USA enforced Postal Police. Buy something from Canada and the seller uses the mail - they cheat you - call Canadian Postal and get informed they have no such enforcement. Blame CANADA! C-A-N-A-D-A - How are things in the provinces? Least they don't have the George Bush psycho SS police - boating on the Detroit River you have your US Coast Guard, your Canadian Coast Guard, US Navy, Canadian Navy, Detroit Police, Windsor Police, Michigan State Police, Ontario Provential Police, Michigan County Sherif, Homeland Security Police, US Customs, Canadian Customs, FBI and The Boarder Patrol - maybe a couple more I forgot. |
