Bent Marine, new orleans
I may be over reacting but this pissed me off!!
During running the tickfaw 200, I was losing drive oil and it was ending up in the bilge. So I traced the reservoir hose and concluded it was coming from the drive. I then pulled the drive and the drive bellow was full of oil... Anyway, I walked into bent marine this morning to ask if they could fix it!! So I told the service guy that I was losing oil from drive and the driveline bellow was full of oil, so he corrected me saying it was the gimbal bellow then preceded to tell me that I couldnt get oil in there. At first, I paused and couldnt believe this guy was going to argue with me about this. So I told him it would if the yoke seal was leaking and I have it sitting in the back of my truck. Then he said "oh, well we can't Look at it for at least 2 weeks!! Which I realize most shops are busy, so I took it to Precision Marine instead... chris was more than helpful!! Am I overreacting?? Or was the bent guy a prick?? |
sounds like a d!ck
|
I get the two weeks thing considering the time of year. Not sure about the 'tude tho.
|
Over reacting. He could be having a bad day like anyone else. And in the height of season 2 weeks is normal for a non-regular customer. Marine service is not like auto service etc.
|
Sounds like he did not know much about outdrives along with the attitude
|
Sounds like a dick but........being around marinas and boats all my life I can see how a prejudice is developed towards unknown customers. Couple that with high stress spring time rush.
1 month is the usual service time here once Memorial day hits. The scary thing is the busy shop with the additude is usually where the best techs and service is. Do you wonder about the guy that gets you in same day? Why is he not busy? |
Correcting you is a small issue, 2 weeks delay when everyone is first splashing boats (and finding problems) sounds pretty good IMO. If you had found the problem in January I bet he could have looked at it that day!!!! :)

I ran into this kinda attitude when looking for my boat....peek of the buying season (in a down market)!! most had no time to discuss their product once they found out I had never owned a go fast. it's their loss at bent in the end!!! |
So it sounds likei wasn't overreacting! I understand the 2 weeks as it's starting to get hot. I was the first customer as I walked in through showroom b/c they didn't even open the gate yet so I would hope his day didn't start out bad before even got to work!!
I figured they were the closest from work to me... Pecision said they would do my lil hour job in the next week as they threw on a stand... Guy from mid steam finally called me back, I have heard good things about them too (picayune). He sounded really nice and helpful on the phone also! If I have more problems (hope not) I will tow there next vs towing thru new Orleans to precision!! Thanks guys for the input!! |
Sorry about your problems.
My CC get all work done at Bent and I have never had a problem with them. Always very helpfull and always done when they say they will be done. I do have to say I have all my service done in the off season to avoid the crazy summer time rush. |

I once heard a lady auguring with a guy about a boat repair, she kept saying her "uncle" said it was this, and her "uncle said" blah blah blah. I kindly asked her why she didn't have her uncle fix the boat, she said "he doesn't have any tools right now" hahahaha Purchasing a boat is a different story IMO, and you are right if someone is shopping for a go fast all ears should be open, they need the sales. The service industry right now is not having the problems you think they might be having. Competitors are going out of business, people are buying used boats cheap. And people in general are "cheaper" right now then they were 5 years ago, so no one wants to pay what is cost to fix a boat right. I don't envy anyone in the service industry, nor do I envy anyone that needs service on a boat right now. It sucks on both ends. |
Do you have any idea who owns that marina?

Greg Bent does. I will have to say that I have spoken with greg on the phone a few times about boats and he always calls me back and spends time with me as if he knows one day i will be a customer. He is a 1st class guy and I know its his buisness but he cant control when the service guy has a bad day, but I promise if word gets back to greg the service guy might offer to shine your shoes the next time u go in. |
Just wondering because I know the guy who used to own Cypress Cove in Venice said he was going to open a marina in NOLA. He is a jerk and that behaviour would be par for the course with him. P.S. he does not own it anymore and Cypress Cove in a very nice Marina and there is great fishing. Anybody ever want to go down there PM me & I'll give you my guides name.

First rule of boating around new orleans.
1. Always go to Precision Marine. 2. Go to racer x6's marine. 3. if neither of these work refer back to rule 1 :D |
