phone scam
 

i just got a call from someone saying they were my neighbor and a package addressed to me got delivered to him,i said what neighbor,he said can i open it,i said no,he said dont worry about it it,s in the trash and then he hung up.im sure it is one of those phone scams where if you call back a big charge is put on your bill so i texted that it was a nice try scammer.the text could not be delivered and i know better to call the number.anyone else get one of these calls?

Nope, but thanks for the head's up. I never heard of that one.

My wife got one (call)at home this past week saying we have a virus on the computer. Indian lady said Can you log in and we'll fix it from here.

Haven't heard that one yet. Do once in a while get the we're suing you for using a money access store blah blah but will settle for x amount to keep it from becoming worse...

i got one of these calls -
i played along, pretending to type in everything he told me to,,,,,,,,and boy he was getting excited.......got to the last command..
He says -now read me exactly what is on the screen.....

Word for word? -i ask

ok, in all caps, it says ....stop trying to hack my computer you f'ing piece of ****.

He hung up, jeez i was only trying to help

UPDATE,the alledged phone scam happened again but now for the good news,i found out yesterday that it was a prank played on me from another oso member who is a friend of mine.he really had me going thinking i was victom of identity theft.

I see this one a lot. This idiots have actually called a few of us in our IT department. I let the one guy go on and on, then I told him I knew what was going on and that I have been in IT for 15 years and have seen it all. He still insisted he was trying to help me. Finally he hung up on me.

What they do is get you to go to a website that will then allow them to control your PC. They will screw it up in the background, then convince you to spend $$ to fix the issue. If you call their bluff, they will render your PC useless. My Uncle fell for it....... When they call they will say they are from "Windows assistance" or something like that. Microsoft will NEVER call you. THey don't give a dman if your PC is messed up as they already have your $$ for a Windows license.
