Welcome me to the club....

It's a club I didn't join willingly.

Here's what my interior looked like in November 2014, when I dropped it off for a full color change, paid my deposit, and was promised it would be completed by the end of December.

Here's what it looks like today, 3 months later, after a missed deadline at the end of December, another for mid-January, another for Feb. 1st, and another for Feb. 20th.... When I stopped in yesterday to check on the progress and an "associate" of the owner was "self-medicating" from a glass pipe, I decided to retrieve the foam and backers and seek a different shop.

If you're in Southern Michigan, beware. I was not refunded my deposit, and was told the "skins are all ready 'over there' and they just need to be picked up." When I asked where "over there" was, or when I could see them, I heard lots of stuttering. I politely requested the skins be retrieved from the bat-cave or my deposit be refunded.

I'm not going to post the shop's name until after this gets adjudicated, but if you're considering upholstery in Southern MI, PM me to potentially save yourself a headache.

They looked better before you took them to the upholstery shop!!!!

A couple of pics of the self medication would put you in the drivers seat.

Owner wasn't on site and the "associate" isn't a paid employee... He was, however, given the responsibility of watching the shop in the owner's absence.
In cases like this, it's not what I know, it's what I can prove, and I can't prove the owner had advance knowledge that the other guy was a druggie.
I explained to the owner that I would NOT be leaving my boat at his shop after witnessing that display of absurdity. Period.

You should have taken the stuff to the guys at XT in Ohio.... I dealt with a D-Bag guy in Wyandotte when having my Velocity interior done. Gave it to him in January and didn't get the last piece until Memorial Day weekend.... He did a nice job but it took me threatening to pull everything out of his shop and paying him only for what he completed. I had to go in daily to make sure it was getting done. Royal pain in the a$$. I learned my lesson, any future business from me will go to XT.

Speedracer29 03-05-2015 06:14 PM

I wish I would have taken it to XT....
Tried to save a few hours drive time, and it ended up costing me a bunch of money and stress.

ROB FREEMAN 03-12-2015 07:10 PM

too bad sir .. another marine industry piece of chit ... what ever happened to the good honest people ... americans are surely becoming third world people ... its a shame,m dam shame

Speedracer29 03-12-2015 07:22 PM

Coulda been worse... One of the flunkies in and out of that shop coulda taken the foam and expanded PVC backers, then I woulda been royally f$&@ed. Owner wrote me an IOU, and I have all the vinyl to do the project. Kind of annoyed by all of it, I might just put the raggedy old covers on for this season and handle the interior next fall.

Sorry that you are going through this chit.... I can only say that XT is the best, and most professional company that you can deal with.... Dave, Lane and staff do a fantastic job. If anyone is looking to "save" money, please pay attention to what has happened to others that you have read about.... Go to the BEST.... XT Innovations....:bananalove:

Xt treated me right, I would recommend them. Not a bad ride from same area you are.

2 months later, a half day off work, a 30 minute drive to court, and I now have a really expensive piece of paper.....
Now I get to wait 21 days so I can start the collection process. A decade ago he was mentioned in Hot Rod, now it's the Legal News.

Yet another cautionary tale of using references and past performance when writing checks for deposits.

J.R. Custom Auto & Boat Trim did my interior a couple of years ago, they are in East Pointe. Call Craig Riddell at 586-412-3796, he is very good and reasonable.

Speedracer29 05-15-2015 09:57 AM

Thanks for the references guys, but I had it completed by a different shop, and it was done in 2 weeks. Now I can focus on getting my money back from the original shop.

Why are you selling it already??? Saw it on CL....

Drake22.250 06-10-2015 02:41 PM

Court systems and laws give you a umbrella when it's sunny and take it away when it's raining. Good luck collecting.

Now that everything is done, I have no projects and nothing to do, and I'm scared I'm going to buff a hole in it!

The wife said she wants a cuddy again, so a Pantera, Banana, or Superboat outboard is in my future if/when this one sells.

The million dollar question is- why are YOU on CL looking at boats?! Hmmm?

I plan on taking the ex-wife approach....if I can't get the money, I'm at least going to make him miserable with court appearances and court officers showing up at his place of business.

low_psi 06-11-2015 07:43 AM

Actually a friend is looking for a boat and sent me the link. He said it looked like my boat shrunk down.....

Why not look for a larger CC with a cuddy like the 30 concept? Granted the cuddy isn't very big, but it is enuf to to sleep two......

LOL, a friend of a friend saw my boat on the trailer a couple weeks back and said "Hey, I've seen that boat on the water Downriver, it looks bigger on the water". I had to explain I owned the smaller doppelgänger version.

I've considered the 30 Concept and the Renegades... It'll depend on what's available on the used market when mine sells. I'm in no hurry, I really like my boat... At the same time, I've long been fond of the Superboats, Panteras, and Bananas, and would really like to own one, but the next boat will have to:
A. Be an outboard boat
B. Have a cuddy
C. Be a liner boat, no carpet.
D. Have some wind protection
E. Preferably have a sunpad or bow filler/sun lounge.

If I thought for a minute I could swing the payment on one of the new AT 29s, I would have already called Pat.

low_psi 06-11-2015 08:49 AM

Well if need "wind protection" than don't buy a CC..............

low_psi 06-12-2015 09:25 AM

How come you haven't replied to the text I sent to your phone @ 3:00pm yesterday??

Lol, I thought it was spam and deleted it! I almost started a conversation about the asking price being raised due to the complications arising out of my toy poodle's hysterectomy, but decided against it.

low_psi 06-12-2015 12:27 PM

I was waiting for you to reply with a smart ass answer........ I was bummed it never happened....... I did my best to make it look like BS by saying I would arrange pick up of "vehicle"......

low_psi 06-12-2015 12:28 PM

I did forward your listing of to a friend who's father is looking for a smaller single engine CC. He might be giving you a call
