Slightly suspicious reply to my wanted ad..
10 Attachment(s)
My spidey sense is going off a little here..
I placed a wanted ad the other day; http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/w...ull-cover.html I got a reply, see attached. I then thanked him and proceeded to email the "seller" The emails I got back from the seller are a bit strange and dont address any questions I asked. Anyone think this is a little weird? |
Nothing suspicious (in my opinion) people don't read the details of emails, they just pick up the bits they like. He likes the idea he can off-load his unwanted cover. I bought my current boat from a dealer and he never answered half the questions I asked him.
I'd ask for a few pics and see if someone nearby can take a quick look to see it's decent. Americans aren't shifty are they? Can't you just trust everyone nowadays? :( RR |

Before jumping to conclusions on the guy, just ask for a phone #. If he's a serious seller, he'll have no problem talking over the phone and answering your questions. If you get an uncomfortable feeling after your phone convo, I'd move on and forget the guy.

A bit high too... I just called the number which in fact in the correct area code, no answer and the automated message said, " the textmail subscriber your trying to reach in unavailable, please leave a message after the tone".... Textmail?? |
i would run. seems way too sketchy
|
Move on. I'd be thinking sketch too.

Thanks guys, your probably right. "My daughter fell ill", "walmart fee"?!
Who the **** says that stuff.... Anyway, beware of this possible fishing scam... |
Ok ha! The person just answered the phone! 100% scam! Extreamly broken english, I could barely understand him, had no idea what material its made from, apparently he bought 2 but doesnt need one of them.. Sounded like he said it cost $1530 new... Payment through Walmart, because his wife is "a registered user".... wtf...
|
Glad you spotted the scam.

IMO-- Wal Mart is the new way to launder $$$. You can deposit cash and anybody Anywhere in the world can access it.
Nice way to get money to your family in Mexico or anywhere from what i hear. |
The 1st giveaway that it is a scam is they ALWAYS use a "Gmail" address. THEY are all over Craigslist with their ****. It's VERY rare that you even got to talk to some one. I have never gotten that.

Wow, what will the scammers think of next? :blaster:

I got the same scam on my WTB post in the "Wanted" forum. It was a PM from user Mikeshore. Exact same response when I got the email from Robert in Texas.

No $hit!? Guy is persistant.. Looks like the admins need to do a little policing around here..
That is not saying he won't come back with a new identity/screen name at some point. Everyone should be cautious when doing any type of deal with unknown people. |
As soon as people start throwing life details around as excuses for not checking emails, or not addressing details, Spidey is right. They have time to tell you where to western union the money though... and text mail is a free phone app you can use to talk on a cell you don't have a plan for. As long as you are in a free network. People who can't afford a cell phone can't afford a row boat, let alone a Cig.

Looks like he has a lot on his hands at the moment so the reply is a bit confused. Try to get some more info but as others said, trust your guts. You would feel the whole time that there is something fishy...

Seems that spotting this thread earlier would save me couple of $$$

It is a little bit of a problem for me because living in another time zone and so.. I think my phone bill would be a lot more than those 275$.
I can justify this money on attenting the class of basic internet frauds :D |

Yep, looks like Mikeshore and Daveshore might be the same, considering they are both using Wal-Mart and Moneygram to scam. You have the account # from the other thread, I'd seriously be calling WalMart/Woodforest Bank/MoneyGram (all owned by WalMart) and opening an investigation.

Rhythm remember the guy I kept jerking around for 2 weeks? Got a certified check and everything .. wall mart to wall mart transfer dead giveaway..

Be cautious!!! Same type of scammer has been targeting OSO again

Glad to hear the scammer didn't get your money.
I had a scary thing happen a few months back. Got a call from my credit card company/bank asking if I just received a $600 cash advance from a Walmart in Mississippi. Told them that I've never been to Mississippi. Then they tell me there was a prev $600 cash advance a few days earlier at the same Walmart. Really wierd part is that I have a $300/day limit on debit card cash advances. How can this possibly happen? Luckily my bank made me whole again, but still,, WTF Walmart?? I asked the bank if they think they will ever find the individual stealing my money, but they really didn't even seem interested. Guess it happens all the time. |
Watch this one very smart

TTT as a reminder to be careful when doing transactions.
It seems the scammers frequently use the PM route for people posting in the wanted section. |
You call that response “slightly suspicious “
you need to up your spider senses vitamins. Lol |
