Possible stolen Scorpion CC - 2nd HIN location?
Hi,
Brand new to the forum, hoping for some information. Somebody tied a boat to a tree on my vacant land in FL, and apparently drove the trailer right out from underneath it (see attached pic). The boat is completely stripped, and all identifying numbers have been removed. My guess, and a local sheriff's deputy agrees, is that the boat was stolen, stripped, and dumped.
Each side of the boat near the rear has the word "Scorpion" faded into the paint where a decal must have been. The boat measures 26' from stern to bow. Looks like it had a big motor bracket for twin engines. So I'd guess it is a 26' or 28' Scorpion center console.
The HIN was removed from the stern, but I just read that after August of 1984, boats are required to have a second HIN hidden on the boat somewhere. So finally, my question is: does anybody know where that location on this boat would be? If we can ID the boat, the police might have something to go on, and they might even have it hauled away.
Thanks for any info,
Randy
<EDIT> Apparently because I am a new poster, I can't directly post a picture. I have uploaded a picture to my album on this site, which I think you can get to by clicking on my user name and select view public profile.
