So…..back to the top. Then a whole bunch of reversion issues happened...with no other changes. Not sure if they added back in... |

Needed a idler pulley for '96 7.4lx MPI and Merc's offering is printed with "made in china" on the bag and "made in china" on the bearing for $40. Went with non-chicom marked aftermarket parts for $27 instead.
If Merc. is going to build their parts in the CCP they should be selling at competitive prices at least! :angry-smiley-038:. |

But it often has a lot to do with it. I would say it comes down to the ethics of the craftsmen. Merc is doing the Harley Davidson thing. It will potentially create enlugh chaff in the industry that another sterndive manufacturer could spring up and topple Merc from their dominance. Or...it adds to the ready prolific outboard use, and put performance boating into a financial realm of unobtainable for most guys. In Canada...to mount 4 450Rs, would be $400k CAD. Or just build a 900hp BBC with Blower and a good outdrive. With inboard systems, you can use raw talent and knowledge to build for a small fraction of the new high power outboards. Not to mention the maintenace and issues the new outboards seem to have...breaking prop shafts and dropping $10000 CAD props as an offering to Neptune. |
