Mercruiser. Yup, beware. Manufacturing issues.
Can't presently cast a set of SBC Mercruiser wet joint manifolds to save their life and won't back them up.
They recognize the issue, have promised several new re-engineer and casting dates, now say sometime soon again, like the other times. Lol.....past a year aftyer bringing this to there attention. These casting have probably been around for 2 yrs or more. So, if you are a installer, dealer, parts reseller, or private person that has or is going to buy these, think twice. I have pics of parts and notes of correspondences. Too bad, as Mercruiser boasts being a world class manufacturer and many of use have been buying their products for a long time. Guess they joined the modern ranks of poor manufacturing and not really giving a schit when it happens. Bummer. Buyer beware. |
That's a bummer and thanks for posting
Happen to know the part number ? |
860246Q11 exhaust manifolds. These are the E-coated ones, but the Ceramic coated ones are effected too as they are the same castings. Verified by Merc. The coatings are done after .

Suggest posting the pics here so if anyone is looking in the future, they can see the issues

Zoom in on pic. Tap, then spread with fingers if phone. Click few times if on pc.Valve cover side not only mismatch but leaves a extremely thin ledge for gasket to try to seal on. Gasket is 100% correct in shape/size.
This is not an oddbal set, Merc says they are all this way until they sell out the rest and change the castings. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...830ecb144.jpeg |
Gasket in pic is positioned perfect too. I used studs to center it.

Does the riser mate up to that? how is the riser to manifold fit? is the problem a mis made gasket? of so can you have a correct gasket made?
