Beware Of Gd Marine In Md

I just wanted to let everybody know that Gilbert @ GD Marine Performance is another guy we need to add to the "most wanted" list. We sent out a SC package COD, of course they bounced the check, will not return calls and have now canceled the check. I have no idea how people can live with themselves with business practices such as this.

Another shady marine dealer. Beware.

If anybody has any information regarding this person or business, please contact me @ [email protected]

Thanks,
Dustin

I thought COD always should be Cashiers Check or Money Order?

Audiofn 07-21-2003 05:39 PM

Nort businesses ussually will go COD with a company when they first start out with them. However if the company has good credit they will send COD company check. I get a lot of my stuff COD company check because it saves me an extra 5% :D:D Obviously I have no idea if Dustins crew did a credit check on this guy or not. Also you CAN put a stop payment on a Cashiers check and money order :(

GO GET UM PHKNLWYR :D:D

i do not know about there but in Texas you write a bad check you will be spending some time behind bars. (& not the drinking kind)

We as buyers need to get a reference from the manufacture first, before dealing with an unknown dealer.

Dustin-Thanks for the heads up.

You can always bounce a cashiers check by transfering the funds after the check has been issued.

Really? I thought funds were withdrawn then so that couldn't happen.

I remember a freind telling me that a cashiers check can bounce. I think a certified check might be what can't go bad. Anyone else on this? Steve

Phknlwyr 07-21-2003 09:22 PM

I believe that a cashier's check requires that the bank take the funds from your account when the check is requested. A certified check merely means that as of the date that the check was written, the bank certifies that the funds were available. That can easily be manipulated with a transfer after the certification is done.

I know when I get a cashiers check at my bank, I have to write a check to the bank, so those funds are no longer in my account.

Mbam 07-22-2003 06:23 AM

I think I remember this -

A cashiers check is a check from the banks account to the payee. The theoretically only way to stop payment on one is to sign an affidavit that the check was stolen or lost and to post a bond to indemnify the bank. The funds are not an issue as it is the banks money. If you are friendly with your banker a stop payment is not much of a problem, but can get ugly if pushed hard enough by the payee.

Pretty much the same thing for a certified check as the funds are "set aside" at the time the check is drawn. I forget the reasin but I think I remember a certified check is actually better.

From a practical standpoint you are probably OK but if there is a problem be prepared for a fight.

electronic wire transfer...the only (virtually) full proof method.

Whipple Charged 07-24-2003 02:24 AM

It was sent for an unsecured check by way of UPS. You have 2 choices on COD for Fedex and UPS, secured and unsecured. Unsecured can be a personal or company check while secure must be a cashiers check.

Believe it or not, we have gotten fake money orders, stolen CC's and fake cashiers checks. I didn't even know at the time that they could do that, but the delivery driver doesn't know the difference, with todays computers, you can do some pretty good fake stuff it seems. We've lost a tremendous amount over the years to fraud and it makes it hard to trust anybody after that.

Thanks for all your help, if anybody has any other info, please let me know. Has anybody ever heard of this guy or have you driven by the place lately? We shipped it to the address in Fredrick, MD.

Thanks,
Dustin
