Used Black Thunder in Maryland
Anyone familiar with THIS boat?
http://www.boattraderonline.com/cadd...1/89101791.htm Seems like it has been on the market for quite some time, I called about it back in August, seems the re-rig was done by Nor-Tech? The boat used to apparently have "Big" power (not sure what though). Any concerns with the surface drives? Those props look like friggin wagon wheels back there. Seems like an awfully expensive set up? I'm just wondering what will be a fair price come spring time assuming the market stays the same or worsens a little. Thanks in advance. |
Oh, I was reading on another ad that this particular boat gets in the range of 2 MPG with this set up.........(yes, miles per gallon @ cruise)
Almost hard to believe, huh? |
I don't necessarily mean "better" as in faster. More like longevity, durability, ease of maintenance, etc.
I'm not really all about speed (I know, I know). We run out, maybe cruise for an hour or so, get some lunch then drop anchor and swim or just hang out and pound some beers. No where to really "Go" up here, so I'm not in much of a hurry to get anywhere. Plus, efficiency is important to me also, if I can run diesels and still look good, that's a good thing. |
I'd say talk to Rick Scott at the number listed or better yet contact Black Thunder to find out what they can tell you about the boat.
IMHO: I'd rather have Bravos vs The Pulse drive system. |

I spoke with Rick in the late Summer. He was the one that gave me the information that it had been redone with the diesels, power and drives swapped out into a cat.
I was just looking for information from someone other than a broker, maybe so real world experience with something similar to this set up (it doesn't seem very common). |
Saxman, no speed increase but no more black transom and fuel burn got much better at cruise. My prop slip with the 4 blades was in the 20% range. It is less than 10% now. I might be able to take out 1" of spacer and cut the prop diam. down a little bit. I lost about 200 RPM on the top end.
