Powertrain issues

I sympathize with you guys having 14,000-16,000lb boats with Bravo drives. You have to be thinking how long will they last even if I feather the throttles and take forfreakingEVER to get on plane.

So my question is what would be the most reliable engine and drive combination you would wish for on your boat? Merc 700/NXT? Ilmor725/Indy? Yanmar 480/Arnesons? 850/1075/6 drives? Weismann 6 drives/multispeed transmissions?

Or name your own I didn't think of..

eh, i'm sure there are a lot of cats out there that wouldn't have any trouble getting past us. It would take a pretty good cat though..... I wish I had a video of the time we "pulled" the 42 MTI dirty duck..... Man that was fun :D

have you thought about the bravo to arneson conversion? They should handle 700-800hp and be pretty reliably.

The arneson I think would make a great drive for the BT as the the arneson would give more forward thrust rather than trimming out and getting too much bow lift. The arneson would also be lighter than an SSM 6 saving weight in the transom area and in essence, creating more transom lift.

I m not 100 pct sure there wouldnt need to be a ton of glass work done to make ASD's work. The 97 had a flat transom and this 01 has ,"IMO" built in extension boxes. Maybe RIK will comment on the possiblilty

waconda 09-03-2009 12:58 PM

I spoke with Rik about it last winter and time it was all over with you could do #6's and not have those props out the back of your boat in the way of the swim platform.

Just bolted a NEW set of BMAXES on last nite. Everyone, wish me luck over the weekend. If I update before tuesday, bad things probably happened. ....................... Chris :coolcowboy:

You were running XR's before the B-max????? Have you had issues :eek:or just trying to not have as many issues???? How much HP per engine in your BT????

I don't know how you do the math here but 3 #6's will run you over 100K plus transmissions, bell housings and such. Close to $115K +

The 3 Arnesons would not be much more than half the "total" cost of the #6 Merc's and would be 1/3rd the weight on the transom.

No XRs for me. Boat came with Bmaxs and i had fought them a bit. Ran the new set for a total of 8hrs this weekend and not one issue. :coolcowboy:

Started with 500efis and now up to 600s. They were tested this past weekend and ran flawlessly

LAriverratt 09-08-2009 12:42 PM

See your form Wichita...I come through every year at least once on my way to hunt in CO. and/or to visit relatives. hope all is well in the great state of TX...still pretty good here...for now. Guess you like the 600s a little more than the 500efi's:D

no brainer.. guys I drove a Hustler with an early Ilmor set up and ASD-6's..back to back against a xr boat. Both were set up excellent, the XR boat planed maybe abut second faster, but once on plane the Arneson out accelerated it. Docking was equal. For the coin, you cant beat an Arneson. I'm sold on them, less parts, handles more power, less coin..Good Luck on the B-maxs.

Coolerman 09-08-2009 04:19 PM

a 46 BT with trip #6's would be too heavy in the back. You should really go with arnesons.

endeavor1 09-08-2009 08:18 PM

Are ASD bravo conversions about 25k each?

Get pics guys, it looks like when that small boat jumped the wake he hit his head on the dash.

Velocity Vector 09-22-2009 11:25 AM

I missed my head on the dash but it did almost get my hair wet leaning over the starboard side. 240# rag doll effect.

Love watching your boat run. Gonna pull the engines out of ours, work on the bottom, and see if 100 is in our future.....

Talked with Bob a couple times at the race on the phone. We never hooked up....

Who has the BT that says BT on the side there? Got a couple of good shots of it.

Did you see where I got the full Hot Shots pic in Powerboat while racing in St Clair????
