Any Black Thunders for sale?
Looking for a 43 Black Thunder I can restore and make my own. Subsequently, faded paint, worn interior, faded gauges, are all pluses. NO WATER issues though. Preferably, step version. Trades possible. If anyone has any leads let me know.

Here's a buddies boat. It's listed on a brokers site but as a favor since they are childhood friends. I can put you in touch with the owner direct if you need more info. Not really a project but some updating and engine refresh are on the horizon.......awesome trailer under it too.

Close, but I was thinking something closer to this in the link. Unfortunately, this isn't a step boat. As ridiculous as it looks (especially a 24K rated trailer), it's actually a low hour 500HP's boat that has a ton of potential. With an upper half rebuild, Mitch T paint job, new gauges and interior, one could have exactly what they want.

As far as I know, the step hull boats don't really run that much faster than the straights. Maybe 4-5mph but not like 10-12
|
Looking at the step on these, does warrant the question of how much it really does? Especially at lower speeds like 45 55 and 65mph. When does this step make a difference?
|
I always "felt" it start around 47-50. The nose would drop and the boat just freed up and ran.
|
No one knows of one sitting in storage somewhere? Might have been there for awhile. Looking for some love.

How fast would the 43 BT run with the 500's? Its clean and seems well cared for.
|
non step 62 mph max, on a good day. That's with going with current and wind helping. Probably more like 58 mph.

I'm hearing you. Especially with the engines you reference. But the one's I've seen 502 and HP500'S had 24 pitch prop's. Pushing that big bit*ch probably causes some slip, which makes any other math then mine a stretch. Again, with the engines I'm describing.

FYI, straight bottom 43 flat deck with 525efis (2) runs 73gps on the limiters and isn't much lighter. There really wasn't a ton of speed difference in the stepped to non stepped boats with 500s. If I remember correctly, Bruce' and Brett's former 43 straight bottom tall deck ran right at 80 or close with 650hp Atecos. Full cabin with a gen so she wasn't light either.

I don't know which 500 boats you have been in but a non-stepped versus a stepped bottom boat there is a huge difference, if you call 7 mph huge.
As far as speed goes, (you claiming 7 mph) was this with matched inputs ie, HP vintage, ambient temp, water conditions? All I'm getting at is that there are lots of factors that come into play getting these pigs to run an honest 70mph with HP500 power. My boats speeds have always been GPS not wish-o-meter. Now, your boat which I believe is still for sale, looks to be a nice machine and package. Ive strongly considered contacting you about it as my Cig is now sold, however I may hold out till I find another EC 46. |
Any others out there unlisted?

Didn't know there was a 46 in Milwaukee. Seen a 43 many times. Any pictures? Is this friend on OSO? Andy

My friend is not on OSO. I don't have any pictures at this time.
