Working on priorities (stereo upgrades)

What have you all done to your BT to make some real thundering sound. I am looking for ideas on what has been done to get concert sound. Types of speakers, quality sound, speaker and amp location and loud. Money, not so much a problem. Just keep it realistic. 125-150 db. Here is a pic from my last boat.

endeavor1,
I actually had this one on my list to go look at until the 2008 popped up. Thanks |
FYI.... Your boat is an EC model "Extended Cockpit". Mine is a SC:wizard: and flat decks are GTs
|
Thanks for catching that. Little tired.

I replaced the 8 pioneer speakers with JL M880 with sorts grills and blue LED rings. Upgraded all 4 amps to push them to the limits. It's absolutely kills it, loud and the windshield will rattle like and old CRV hatchback with a 15" in it! I just ordered 4 10" JL subs to match. The ones in it sound okay, but these will sound a bit better and look cool.

thecraiger,
That sound great. What are installing them in. Do you have pics. |
2005 black thunder. I've got some pics, not sure how to post them.

Go to serious offshore or powerboat nation and post. Much more friendly to us BT guys. Good meeting you at the shootout! Wedging the 52/54 Searay in that line was nothing short of bad ass along with the drinks Chris |
Hey Chris, yes that was a great day!
I'll buck up and pay. Adding 4 more JL 8.8 This will be (12) JL M8.8 coaxil and (4) JL M10" subs All being pushed 250W @ 4 ohm Blue LED speaker rings around them all... I'll post pics once they are all in next week. John is wrapping up. I rebuilt the 575 sci, flat-top pistons, roller cam and whipple kit. Had him install BMAX drives and a ton of other ancillary stuff. Should be pretty cool when done. I'm shipping it to Miami next month for the Key West poker run. |

W&W do the install?

Excess Customz (yes with a z)
At the lake of the ozarks. Great audio work. Also does some body work and full details. |

Looks awesome. I have been JL audio lover in my last boats. Been studying W&W builds and I think I am going to change gears alittle. I had 24 components + the 24 tweeters in last boat. Sounded great and loud, but did not get the sound that I was really wanting. I was told by a few I could go with half as many speakers and take it to the next level if I go with Focal. Did not want to spend the money. This time I am thinking this is what I am going to do. Nobody I boat with or around have Focal, so I have never been able to compare. I know this is what W&W likes to use, so therefore you guys at LOL have probably been around them and had the opportunity to compare. Any thoughts? |
W&W have done a couple boats for me in the past with Focal. Great guys, great work, but I believe a premium price for what can be had for less. I'm no audiophile and have a hard time hearing the slight difference in speakers. I believe many speakers including focal and JL sound very close and the biggest difference is using clean power and enough of it to make them come alive. The reason I used JL was due to not having room for additional subs, and the engines tend to drown out the bass. The 8.8 JL really throws off that bass I was looking for....and of course the grills look great.
Do you boat at the lake? I'd be more than happy to let you listen to them. |

I know subs become a problem and I have been researching and studying how I can make 2 18", 4 12" and 2 10" subs be build into the gunwale space and get it to make some real waves. The reason is so I can cover 20hz to 140hz for different music. I know this sounds crazy, but I like to be different if it is going to work. Here is an example of what I am thinking. I've been trying to find who actually did this build. |
Yes, that would be wild. The walls are deep enough, that it should work. You just need to be careful. It's a thin line between cool and tacky:)
Let me know what you figure out. |
Yes, l agree it could be cool or to tacky. I don't really want subs under bolsters and no room under back seat. I need that storage. Still researching options.
|
Let me know what you come up with, I may copy....
|
I've mounted 10s and 12s in the side. That's thick glass and I've never had issues with them loosening.
|
Is that Spectre the X-Power drives boat? If so the owner is on here.
|
Bring this up again for I have purchased some JL 8.80s. Ive tried to get a hold of thecraiger, but no success. What amps are you putting behind these speakers?
