I did the same thing this past week after reading this thread. It had just never occurred to me to make one out of a PWC lanyard. I can wear it on my ankle or wrist and I can attest from flying off of PWC's that they do not come off when wet and they are very comfortable to wear.

I started wearing mine many years and boats ago when I bought a Donzi 16 Classic for water skiing. Great for that, but a real trip at speed! You never knew how that boat was going to fly. And fly it did!!
I tie mine to my bathing suit draw string...with a double knot. I don't want my hand or foot encombered. Works great for me.

Tried the wrist lanyard this weekend and hated it. Kept getting hung up on stuff and was generally a pain in the ass. Good news is the new lanyard is longer and the clip is a lot better, easier to hook it on a belt loop or drawstring.

I wrap my lanyard around my ankle, then clip it back to itself. More comfortable than I thought, but I plan on buying a PWC style wrist band soon.
Honestly, this is a new habit for me. Just started really making an effort to wear it this season. I have worn mine each and every time the boat has been driven so far. I was compelled after reading this thread and a few others here on OSO.

Tethers require human input to vizualize and feel the input and then respond accordingly.
I look forward to the time when a passive ignition interupt is developed.
