Question....Cigarette Top Gun accident.....NJ

There is some local talk about a Cigarette Top Gun that had an accident in the Point Pleasant area recently.
Any truth in this?

berns29scarab 07-07-2007 09:49 AM

Is that it? Or you don't want to say anything.

berns29scarab 07-08-2007 07:51 AM

no one injured as far as i know. i dont enuff about what happened to open the can of worms other than it was a late latemodel gun that SUPPOSEDLY was involved in a low speed spin out and flip...the owner of the boat is related to an OSO member and since there was nothing in the local papers about the incident, i'm thinkin the time isnt right to spill the beans for 1 reason or another...sorry

CAP071 07-08-2007 08:01 AM

I didn't see or hear anything about it at the Station either

As long as everyone is Ok thats what matters Most.

SHARKEY-IMAGES 07-08-2007 08:58 AM

Everyone got a bit banged up but all 6 are ok.

A cracked steering line was found after they pulled the boat out.

From the reports I was getting you would have thought the boat was totaled. That is certainly not the case. The boat needs some glass work but not much. The swim platform top bolts snapped off but the bottom bolts kept it intact.

The boat was remarkably clean inside and out when I saw it just a few days afterwards.

Glad to see everyone made it out ok...

Probably what really hurt was being told it was $8,000  to tow the boat in from just a mile or two. The boat was brought back to their home port marina that has the facilities to do whatever it takes to pull it out...

I would have taken pics, but being as the owner wasn't available to ask for permission to do so, I left the camera in the truck.

It is sure to back out on the water soon...

wigginout 07-08-2007 09:21 AM

A low speed spin out and flip? Never even heard of that. Never really thought about slow you could be going and that happen. Glad everyone is ok except for his wallet. $8000 for a tow. Holy Crap!

Back4More 07-08-2007 09:32 AM

Glad to hear all that were aboard are safe...

Must have been Sea Tow :D

Comanche3Six 07-09-2007 04:03 PM

Thanks for the responses.

Panther 07-09-2007 04:37 PM

Do the owners first names start with an A or a D?

Hauling Trash 07-09-2007 04:54 PM

Dd........................

OldSchool 07-09-2007 06:04 PM

Was Cash bar up in Jersey?????????????? :D :D

Just kidding, glad that everyone is OK!

TexomaPowerboater 07-09-2007 08:06 PM

I can't believe how much they charge to pull a sunk boat.

On another note - I finally found out the scoop on that Gladiator that rolled at Texoma. Apparantly it had some mechanical problems as well - something with the trim tabs and steering. Somebody needs to come up with a design to prevent a boat from making sudden turns when little things like blowing a seal or not having enough power steering/hydraulic fluid runs out.

Cashbar is OK right??? Listen, Greg has taken a few hard hits to the head over the years while driving step bottom boats... I think he needs some time off.

this weekend a very good friend of mine was running his 39 Activatorin the 70 mph range, just finishing a high speed rip when all of a sudden she slides out and after sliding sideways a hundred feet or so continues to come all the way around !!! totally out of the blue !! he amazed at what the hell happend. gathers himself for a few trims up the drives to see both lowers COMPLETELY GONE !! gets towed to his ramp, pulls out the boat and sure enuff it appears that while the boat had been sitting at marina someone attempted to steal his lowers and must have gotten disturbed while doing so. remaining studs and nuts must have backed themselves out while he was running her...he's a very very lucky man !!

sleeper_dave 07-10-2007 07:04 AM

I heard a story about a friend of a friend taking on water after transom housing bolts broke the other day. Apparently it was a couple of the bolts going through the transom that broke. This is a new one on me, i've never heard of something like that.

It seems just about any little thing can go wrong on a fast boat. You just have to be fanatical about maintenance, i guess.

There should be velocity fuses in the steering system to prevent accidents due to a blown line, though. That's one design feature that could probably save a few peoples asses down the road.

OldSchool 07-10-2007 07:38 AM

Looks like that skeg-eating monster is back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

Once again, glad that everone is OK!

jersey 07-11-2007 09:52 AM

That sounds like it came way at the end of the grape vine...

The owner knows the waters all too well to fall victim to the shallows...

Now on the other hand, if they lost their steering, it is very possible it accidently ended up in the shallows.:(

jersey 07-12-2007 08:14 AM

Actually it was a little higher up the vine, and you are right the owner knows the water very well. A friend of mine got the story from someone that was on the boat and the owner may not have been driving.

Panther 07-12-2007 08:58 AM

Lots of grapes and lots of vines and no words from the horse.......

We'll never really know but I respect his privacy...

berns29scarab 07-12-2007 09:33 AM

whats that old song "RUMORS"...

I'm glad everyone is ok but what's all this hush, hush crap. Just tell the story. The locals already know who was involved and if they didn't the initials and marina location gave it away. And if your not local you won't know who was involved anyway.

A couple summers back a TG ran up the rocks and landed in Metro Park on Lake St. Clair. Nothing in the news, all hush hush, no evidence of the crash except some grooves in the grass the next day. I think he was a Sheriff Deputy, probably has something to do with it.

The guy was rich, and quite drunk from what I hear. You'd pretty much have to be wasted to hit where he hit. One of the other guys on the boat was a sheriffs deputy, IIRC. I did hear a bit about it, but it didn't really make the news. There are a lot of accidents that nobody ever hears about, though.
