Rottiguy 12-15-2008 07:37 PM

whoa!

silverstang84 12-15-2008 08:31 PM

what happend there? too much trim? too fast?

formulaok 12-15-2008 09:09 PM

driver didn't have it set up right to launch off that wake. That boat may not have flown very level regardless, if so he should know have known its charactaristics and not pushed it.

Showing off and ego,but only minimal skills. It is the cause of nearly all of these type of crashes

Perlmudder 12-15-2008 09:24 PM

yikes.

jeff1000man 12-16-2008 11:08 AM

Wow, I never knew about that one.

Trojan-man 12-16-2008 12:54 PM

I remember when that happened. I believe the local boat club stopped having "wake jumping" after that incident. :party-smiley-004:

Wonder what Sutphen that was?? Looks like a 31.

lucky strike 12-20-2008 06:10 PM

Jumping boat wakes will get you into trouble 4 sure.

That is not a Sutphen bro

lucky strike 12-20-2008 06:11 PM

Looks like a Baha... I think.

Look again my friend. Look at when its on its side. The deck is most certainly a Sutphen. You can see the outline of the cockpit and is Sutphen to a tee. Check it out on you tube and full size the screen and then play it in slo mo. I think you'll see that it looks just like the kind of boat you own.

I did... I can't see it being a Sut. It looks like it has a molded in swim platform. Still looks like a Baja to me. But who knows.

Kinda hard lookin at it upside down .....:ernaehrung004:

wstultz 12-22-2008 06:21 PM

I remember that well. They showed it before every event we had for a few years just as a reminder. It was a Sutphen and I believe a 30....long time ago. Driver was Kurt Harbor who raced for a while. I believe he drove the Smart Money Fountain for a season or two. He also had a 39 Sutphen once upon a time that was a bad machine...it had 6's and huge engines and was the loudest boat I had ever heard.

It is a damn curse! Nobody down here really knows the Sutphen brand. Now everytime I tell someone I have a Sutphen I get the reply...."Wasn't that the same kind of boat that rolled after that run in the early 90's.":angry-smiley-038:

If I remember correctly everyone walked away fine. Lucky.

Video description says it is a 30 Sutphen Ocean Pacer.

wildhorses 12-24-2008 10:05 AM

The boat that rolled was a 30 supthen. He then ordered the 39, bad a$$ boat, I know because he gave me his truck, credit card, and a pocket full of money to pick it up at Innovations Marine and test run it for 2 or 3 days in Sarsota to see if it would stay together or break. I came home after the first day, it gets boring running a boat wide open all day long by yourself. He kept the 39 but started racing a 30 Velocity before the Fountain.

That was more of a case of the baot being run to fast in the rough (some might argue that is was also not trimmed out right or that the tabs weren't down enough). In that incident he was not wake jumping.

What was the outcome of that roll? Was there a specific reason why it went skyward like it did? Did you guys ever figure out if it was trimmed wrong or was it just a freak accident? I only ask because I used to own an ocean pacer and it seemed to be a very stable boat. What did he end up doing with his 39?

wildhorses 12-24-2008 04:10 PM

Kurt and I never really talked about the cause, but seeing the video it looks that He hit the wake at the wrong angle running up, it not across it. No one was hurt, just embarrassed.

R Addiction 12-25-2008 04:16 PM

Ouch! Glad no one was hurt.

30ctsutphen 12-25-2008 10:10 PM

At the Ct river urn this year Sew Fast (Sutphen 26 Rum runner) got every bit of that high and that straight up and down off my brothers fountain wake. Landed it perfect!

Had video of the fountain and just missed the launch and landing of Sew fasts boat, but you can here everyone on my boat say HOLY SH&^ when he flew it.
