Biscayne Bay

I'm probably going to be moving to Miami in the next year and will be living in an apartment on the island on JFK causeway. What is the traffic on the Bay like and is there a good presence of Game Wardens and other water capable LEO's to take care of the knuckleheads? Thank you.

fossil fuel 02-23-2011 07:40 PM

Biscayne is huge, Below the causeway is no speed limit. Above is watched closely.....

JUPITER PULSARE 02-26-2011 10:17 AM

Weekend traffic on S Biscayne Bay can get crowded...lots of boats head south to Elliotts Key on the weekend so there will be plenty of cruiser wakes to contend with. If you get up early you'll find the Bay will usually lay down flat and can see lots of wildlife...sea turtles, nurse sharks, rays, flying fish, dolphin, etc. As the NE seabreeze picks up in the afternoon, south Biscayne Bay can get down right snotty with surface chop and boat traffic. During weekdays it's a pleasure to run...no boat traffic or speed limits! Cruising the upper key channels are beautiful....Ceasars Creek, Anglefish Creek, the pass between Elliotts Key and Sands Key, etc....tons of great snorkling/diving!! Enjoy!!

Just got back from a week there. Love it. We did have 8-10 Border Patrol/Customs agents waiting for us at Haulover when we pulled out. We came in through Goverment Cut. They were very polite and just doing their jobs.

My wife and I will be staying in Miami Beach June 11th - 13th after a cruise and would love to check out the local watering holes where the high performance boats hang out, can anyone point us in the right direction? I'm thinking Sunday (the 12th) should be a great day to see some awesome boats. :coolcowboy:

Thanks for the tips man, we'll check them out! As for Mangos, we've been there before - great spot all night long with lots of hotties dancing on the bar! She's cool with that - in small doses...haha. Yea, just looking for a casual "hooters" like place on the water where it gets crazy on Sunday's and the boats dock up close to the patio. I've done some research but some of the places are closed so I'd rather not waste a lot of time running around looking for the best place.

Theres also Smith & Wollensky Steak House on premises all the way at the end.

Lots of really nice boats, sites etc...top notch place. The city of Miami apparently just spent $$$$$$$$$ on the area and it shows, you can also walk to the end and watch the cruise ships and other boats go out of Govt Cut.
Very cool spot

Haulover is ok but you will be lookn at the boat ramp.. go to Montys at the Miami Beach marina youll love it, theres also Joe's Stone Crab right across the street.

Is Biscayne Bay open ocean? or does it have protective walls?

Also, is this where boaters launch at the Miami boat show poker run?

fossil fuel 03-27-2011 02:36 AM

Miami boat hangouts

Hooters Ft Lauderdale any afternoon on the water to answer the question of boating bars. TNT Marina for perf boat launching North Miami
Biscayne bay is protected but gets big wind chop when blowing.
