24' ss7m prop recomendations
 

Hi guys, I just purchased a 1981 carrera ss7m with a 330/454 and a trs drive. A few mods were done to the motor so I am probably pushing just under 400hp. Not sure what to run but Im thinking about putting a 21p 4 blade prop on. Any suggestions?

Id try a 23 mirage. Hey can you tell me what the first three letters of your VIN#.. Ive got a 1980 SS7M im trying to read the vin and just get OS nd the numbers?

23 mirage(not plus) is your best place to start.

I have a carrera 220 viper and i would say that mine is heaver then most with all the electronics i have added over the years requiring 3 batteries, so with full tanks and and a full load of people on board it would take a lot to get her up on plane with a 23 Mirage. Instead of going to a 21 Mirage I tried a 22 Enertia and i really love it. It is much faster to plane them the 23 mirage was and I didn't have to give up my top end by going to a 21/

Different company,different boat.
He has a 24 Carrera from the Carrera in Miami ,
its a 24x7 with 24 deg deadrise offshore boat.
What worked for you boat probably will be different for this one.

I am sorry if i wasn't clear, that was my point about my boat being much heaver then she was stock, and we are using the same power (454/330 with mods). I also have a friend with a fountain with twins who switched from the Mirage to the Enertia who had similar results to mine.

The Enertia is much newer technology then the Mirage and is both larger and lighter then the mirage with thiner but stronger blades.

The only way to know for sure is to try it out which is why i would suggest using mercury's "try before you buy" program.

No thanks.. thin props crack.. What does the enertia cost?

New technology props do not always work on Old Technology boats:grinser010:

I have tried many props(as have others with 24x7 boats), and the old school Mirage is best. Havent tried an Enertia, so it may work, but if he needs a definitive answer on what WILL work right out of the box, standard 23 Mirage(not plus), plus they are cheap to buy used, heck I got a spare one I would sell:drink:

The Enertia is about the same price as the Mirage (shop around). The Enertia could be made thinner because they used a different SS alloy which is much stronger then the old mirage was (making the enertia the stronger prop of the two) . I have been told that at some point in the future Mercury will us this same alloy for all their props.
