Awesome boat.Great to hear that you are planning in racing in OPA Class 6.The class is growing and should have at least 10 boats at most races next year. With you; there will be two 24ft Carreras, two 24ft Sunsations,a 24ft Baja,a 24ft P&D,maybe a couple of 24ft Batboats,a 24ft Pantera,a 25ft Warlock,a 25ft Checkmate,a 25ft Martini,a 26ft Velocity,a 26ft Sutphen, and a 26ft Corsa. There are many other deals on old race boats that could compete in this class;so the potential for even more growth is definately there.Good luck, and keep us posted on your progress.I race in OPA and it is great group of people. The racing is competitive and fun. After once race..you will be hooked!Look forward to seeing your team on the race course next year.

took this boat out today messing around a little and it handles every bit as good as a 24 pantera i had a couple years ago, maybe better!!!. Boat has a 502 in it now but the prop is wrong. cavitates a little and porposes slightly when i bring the drive up. Only turning 5000 RPM as well. Wouldnt a 502 turn between 5400 and 5700 with the right prop? Im not sure the prop on it now. looks like a quicksilver. From what i have been told i should be starting with a 23p mirage and go from there???

--- Any input is apreciated. "thanks"

Depends on what 502 you have??

magnum333 10-16-2010 08:30 AM

older 502 carburated forged internals is all i know about the motor right now. its coming out over the winter and getting swapped with a 800hp 572 though.

all 502s are forged internals.
the normal carbed Merc 502/385hp has rpm range of 4600-5000
Carb HP500 has rpm range of 4800-5200 according to Merc specs.
Drive height on older Carreras is deep unless its been updated,
prop technology 30 years ago was not what we have today.
It will be a scary ride if you add that much power without setting drive at correct height for the speed that much power will get you.

This Carrera was set up by Mark Poker [Cat Can Do, 28' Skater] at , Litre Performance Marine Warren Mi years ago. I believe it has really never been raced since then. Give him a call he might have the props and any history about this Carrera.

thanks for the info guys! TRS drive on the boat has a spacer thats removable to shorten the outdrive. currently has the spacer in. Maybe a good idea to remove the spacer? looks to be roughly 2" thick.

When the boat was rigged she had a speed II Trs drive, they are about 2" longer than a stock Trs drive. With the props that are available today you may find some speed with the spacer out with the stock Trs drive. How long will it last with big power & higher X ??????

I was at Jacks Sunday :drink:, looks like you had a busy day testing, any luck..

swung6 10-19-2010 04:54 PM

It was nice out so i figured i'd go mess around a little. pulled the boat out Sunday night. Talked to Mark at Litre this morning. Engine is coming out of the boat next week. Mark is supposed to come check the hull out this week some time. We're thinking its gonna need an XR drive with the kind of motor we want to put in. Should be a pretty bad hotrod for next summer!
