Default 1996 Carrera ss8m center console

I'm picking this up next week. It has a single outboard. I want to switch to twins. Does anyone know the max outboard hp rating for its hull?

I believe on the original Carrera 27 open fish the max they ran was twin 225s,,of course that was the biggest they had back then, lol
I know of one I personally rode in that had two 225s tweaked to around 275, engines raised pretty high and speedmaster lowers that ran low 70s..It was not set up for fishing though.
Your is a 96 so it was made by the new Carrera company that bought the molds from Humberto.
I really dont know how well they made that particular year,, if it as beefy as the ones Humberto made I would think you would be safe with up to twin stock 300 2 strokes like Optis so long as hull is in good shape sturcturally.. I dont think the boat would handle correctly with the new Verados as they are way heavier and would make the boat too prone to bouncing/porpousing.
I think a pair of nice Merc 225-250xs two strokes would be the best all around combo.
Lastly get the biggest tabs you can afford,,I run 30" tabs on my 27..Makes it ride like a cadillac..

Thanks for all the info. I was wondering about the extra weight of the verados. I also found a nice pair of 225 optis locally. I think I might go that route. I just bought this boat. It's built like a tank. Can't wait till next spring

225optis are an excellent base point.
After you get used to them and dial them in there are a lot of good shops that can boost them to 250-275hp reliably

Mount em as high as you can without loosing water pressure
and run 4 or 5 blade props depending on what it likes.
Running them too low will cost you 3-5mph though it will be a better fishing boat. Just depends what its use will be.

If your more into speed than fishing sell the Ttop and get a bimini.
Ttop will cost you 3-5mph

Dont forget getting some big tabs.

Absolutely get rid of the bottom paint..
Bottom paint will also cost you 3-5mph

Getting everything dialed in Should run 70 in ideal conditions,,65 in normal conditions..

with engines at normal height, ttop and bottom paint it will probably only run around 60mph.

You will need a new engine bracket,,that one is for triples,,the engines will sit too far out.
Have fun!

I have a opportunity to buy a pair of 2004 mercury 250 efi. They have 600 hrs on them and just had the injectors cleaned and flow tested also new composite reeds installed. Can anyone give me thier opinion on these for my Carrera? Thanks
