Convincor 253 speeds

What kind of speeds are people getting with their 253 Convincors?

Thanks. What is the dry weight of a 253 with a BB? 4200-4300? Sounds like the 8' beam slows them down a little?

Only two people in this forum have/had a 253? Anyone else out there?

Re: Convincor 253 speeds

I have a 94 253. It goes 59 mph :D
No boat, why are you looking for speeds for the 253?
If you do a search you can find a lot of different speeds listed. Before I bought mine, I rode in a few Bajas and Checkmates to compare. I thought both had benefits and ended up with the check.
The 253 hull will go 80mph with the right power combo, and still be driveable.
So i've heard :D
I think there may be insurance company trolls running thru this site right now, so I don't think many people are posting how fast there boat is unless it's an obvious offshore go-fast.

I'm looking for speeds because I am looking at a 253 right now. I'm just trying to get an idea of what kind of power it takes to run certain speeds. If I get the boat I would like to make it run 80-85.

SO, I will post my question differently. :D Does anyone know what kind of power it would take to run a 253 at 80-85? I'm guessing about 650hp?

Re: Convincor 253 speeds

650 hp sounds right. But at those speeds you are pushing that hull beyond it's abilities. @ 78 mph, mine was a handfull!! It would get squirley very quick in sloppy water.

Interesting. Were you running K-planes? Full hydraulic steering?

Thanks

Re: Convincor 253 speeds

I had a 1997 253 with over 1100hp. It ran a best of 104mph on GPS so I don't think 80-85 mph is beyond the capabilities of the hull. I did have full hydraulic steering and k-planes. The boat did require some "driving" to control chine walking but after 90 it settled down and just handled great.

I took out the motor and put in a stock 502. I sold it to a fellow out east. The motor out of the 253 is now in my 30' Check.

for sh#@! and giggles, what did the size of the boat due to performance.
you added 4-6' of boat and plenty of weight, however i would guess you run twins right, did you build another?

Re: Convincor 253 speeds

It is a very sweet setup, twin turbo engine and a #6 drive.

check300 01-31-2006 08:16 AM

Re: Convincor 253 speeds

I reconfigured the engine with bigger turbos, different headers, and a new engine management system. The 30 is faster than the 253, because the engine is making a lot more power.

Re: Convincor 253 speeds

thats sweet, can you post some photos of boat and turbo setup?
maybe a new thread so i dont step on the 253 speed thread here!!

dont know the difference in hulls but my 242 runs 72-73 with about 550hp,
i would think it would compare though.

As I'm just a standard member right now, I can't post photos. There are some pictures on the Checkmate-boats forum. News and views Pg 12 of the thread about the 2005 regatta.
