there were no Checkmates at the Atlanta Boat Show either.

CONVINCOR 300 01-29-2002 11:23 AM

That's a very good question! We have a dealer (Knecht) in Louisville area..can't get financing! Alot of our dealers are afraid to stock boats and spend money on shows with the economy the way it is?

Yes, there is one in the Atlanta area. I went their in the fall and was looking at the Stilleto. He also had a Pulsar and I think a couple Convincors.

I was at the Ft. Lauderdale Boat Show in October and Checkmate had a large display, maybe 6 boats in all. They looked great as always. However, the salesperson was a joke. He indicated top end speed on several boats that was way off. I almost made a bet with him in regards to a 21' mate with a 225hp Merc. as he indicated the boat would do 80mph. Yeh, in his dreams.

I recently sold my 1990 21' Starflite with a 200hp Merc. and even when new the boat had a top end of 68mph. I only wish the salespersons at these shows knew as much as avid boaters.

I went to the Chicago boat show and there was no mate display either. As a whole I was very disappointed with the show. I'm hoping to go to the miami show.

checkmate zt 01-31-2002 07:33 PM

Im glad, I dont want to see a boat like mine every time I turn around.

toonatime 01-31-2002 08:54 PM

One noticeable change at the Atlanta boat show was the lack of powerboats in general...Nice display by the new Fountain dealer, a couple Formulas,2 smaller Baja's, Barkley's great Pokerrun display..More fishing boats than ever..everybody is building one!!

J Berman 01-31-2002 09:41 PM

I will be heading to the Miami International Show in mid-Feb. and will let you know if I see any Checkmates. Its not really a bad thing that they are not at all of the shows. Hell, who wants to see 10 Bajas at every show!

Given the current economic climate there are many more lookers then buyers any way. It may be money well saved!

Jeff

CONVINCOR 300 02-01-2002 11:14 AM

Jeff......i'll make that bet with you...the Pulsare 2100(Checkmate's current 21' O/B) WILL run 80 on a mercury speedo. I have talked many 2100 owners they all say anywhere from 77- 82 w/225 EFI..turning a 25 Temptest! Back me up Fly-n-Ryan! As far as boat shows go...i would be interested to know..how many of the Check owners here bought there boat at a show???

dyno 02-01-2002 11:32 AM

Check300 I bought a new 253 in 1994 did all my shopping before any of the shows and got a better deal than I could at the show....It was my second Checkmate I had a 22 vision before that.I'll tell you what pissed me off when I went to make the move up from the 253 I could'nt find a demo 300 or a 33ZT any where. The guys at Gun lake are great but they never had one in stock, I saw ZT just before the delivered it but they would'nt let me demo it,thats ok it was'nt there boat. But who's going to drop over 100k and not drive the damn thing....not me! Tony and the guys at Gunlake are great but they did'nt take me seriously so I bought a 31 Sonic.....but I still love Checks

wild willy 02-01-2002 12:15 PM

check 330; not really doggin you guys, but there are a lot of us who get cabin fever about this time of the year and it would have been nice to see more checkmates at these shows than all the damm bajas.we beat them on the lake so why not at the shows? your 300 pro-charged boat would have made a nice display by it self!! BILL :p :p :p :p

Is Checkmate limiting their production on some of their lines? With the economy and job market, it would make sense. I would of liked to of seen a couple 'Mates at the Atlanta Boat Show. They had alot of pontoon and fishing boats.

dyno 02-01-2002 02:29 PM

Eric I dont think Checkmate is limiting anything they build the boats they have orders for.....if the dealers dont order for the showrooms they dont get built..

st 02-01-2002 02:55 PM

I'll back CM300 in that my Pulsare w/225EFI will run low to mid 70s(GPS) with an under propped 23' Mirage+ (bad prop). I can't wait to run it with the 300 ProMax! Kip, are you going to loan me that Tempest off the 28'? I'll try to return it with 3 ears....
ST

Wild Willy, maybe you should start up a marina in IN and stock some boats.

FAST ENOUGH 02-01-2002 04:58 PM

CHECKMATE 300 The Pulsare is lighter than mine is that why I only can get about 70 or so mph. Or should mine be running faster. Also wanted to let you know since I have not talked to you a while. That I still love my boat and got many compliments on it at last years Cumberland Poker Run. Our wives and girlfriends used it all day to party in while we ran the Poker Run. Thanks for getting it done quickly and making such a quality product. :D I currently have a 23" Trophy Plus 4 blade on it. Cant wait until spring. :D :D :D

checkmate zt 02-01-2002 05:45 PM

Who the hell wants to buy a boat thats been drug all over hell in the salt and snow?? If your from the northern states that is.

Willy, on your next boat purchase maybe you should consider which brands you can see more often at the boat shows.

CONVINCOR 300 02-04-2002 12:06 PM

Fast Enough....yes your 210 is 400lbs heavier..different bottom design...it's a much better rough water boat though! Don't remember if you have a jack plate or not, that makes a difference. 70 MPH is very respectable for that boat w/or without the jack plate.

gslinger 02-04-2002 01:10 PM

Checkmate 300, I have 97 zt280 with a 454mag I just bought the boat in november and to put in storage. What kind of top end should I see from this combo?

J Berman 02-04-2002 03:55 PM

CHECKMATE 300: My Starflite had a advertised weight of 1,300 pounds. The new Pulsare 2100 has an advertised weight of 1,375 pounds and it is a wider boat. I have friends that have 20' Action Marine boats being 800 pounds that run in the mid 70's with a 200 Merc. In order for that Pulsare to run 80 MPH it would have to be somewhere around 1,000 pounds. Jeff

CONVINCOR 300 02-05-2002 02:23 PM

gslinger....i would say in the mid 60's. Jeff....weight isn't the only factor in how a small O/B runs, the 2100 has a completely different bottom design from both the Starflite and the old Enchanter..and the motors are more efficient than they used to be. The 2100 also comes standard with a 5" CMC jack plate. Seeing is believing....would love to get you a ride in one...we've even put a 300 Pro Max on one it's in the 90's.Believe IT or NOT

FAST ENOUGH 02-05-2002 04:00 PM

Hey Kip,(CHECKMATE 300) are you planning on updating the website this year with some more info and pics on the PULSE 210 and 211 and the Pulsare. I think there is growing interest in those boats. I consistantly have people asking me about mine and it would be nice for them go to Checkmatepowerboats.net for more information and see some more pics. And if you need a Pulse 210 for pics I will volunteer mine. :D :D :D :D And yes mine does have the jack plate.

Thanks checkmate 300. Is there any plans in the work to make checkmates website bulletin board more like this one were you can see responses and the like?

CONVINCOR 300 02-06-2002 02:00 PM

Hea guys...thanks for the input on the web site...we are always looking for better ways to use the web site...and yes we will be looking at responses from the bulletin board to make the site better and more informative.

Ck1flyer 02-07-2002 12:35 PM

Jeff, you're right a Pulsare can't run 80 with a 225, but it can get damn close with a 225 Promax. I run mine with a 24 Trophy Plus spinning 6700 rpms and it hits 77-78 on gps consistantly. My 100mph gaffrig speedo bounces on 85, but gps doesn't lie.

NO Checkmate at the Philadelphia boat show! I will look for them 2/10 at Atlantic city NJ boat show. The boat shows around here suck! NO power boats at all!

J Berman 02-19-2002 07:22 AM

Went to the Miami Boat Show on Saturday. No Checkmates at the show.

Baja was their in full force, not much traffic at the display while I was their. The fit and finish of the Bajas displayed looked good. Still would not buy one. They had two fishing boats on display, what a joke! Powerplay had a nice display as did Sonic. Cigarettes display really looked good and a lot of people noticed as the had a 38' vertical with the nose 38' into the air, SWEET! Donzi was outside, and was impacted by the bad weather. There boats looked great from a distance just don't get too close. The Fountains are a joke. The hardware used is very cheap and the cleats are all undersized. The bow light was a $7.99 Perko. For the prices they are charging anyone who buys one has not shopped around.

Many more Yamahas on the stern then Merc's. Although, the Merc display was very cool. They had a 4-Stroke displayed but would not give much info. Also the 250hp OPITMAX was displayed it will be a 2003 model.
