12' Checkmate
 

Have a neighbore who is letting go a 12' 1981 checkmate w 25 out board on it, fair cond, considering age. What do you think of this boat and value???

Will....the boat your looking at is a Playmate LOA 11'3" 64" Beam Approx Weight 295LBS ...I looked it up in the NADA guide and it books for about $750wout/ motor..cool little boat! Only in production for a few years. 25HP is MaxHP. :)

Yea,

I started thinking about it after, looking at Sharkymarine pics of him jumping his little 13" V. It is blue with blue silver metalic 80's style :D has a trailer and has been sitting for 3-4 years now (covered). Looks like a fun little project, I am going to try to get it for like $300 w/motor. :p

No pics, but I am going to borrow a dig cam to take some pics of my boat this weekend and I will try to get a couple of the Checkmate. ;)

The playmate wouldn't still happen to be for sale would it? I'm looking for one of the older outboards. Will take in just about any condition.
Also if anybody knows who owns the molds, I'm trying to track that down. I spoke with checkmate and they told me they sold them some time ago.

Myself and my brother had Two Mx-13 and one Mx-15 still have the 15. All were 1973's. 85hp merc. on one 13 and 75hp johnson on the other. Talk about the ride of your life, that is if you like chine walking. What a blast those MX-13 were. They would launch stright up with only the lower end left in the water. Could go from 0 to wide open instantly. The good old days when we were young and stupid.

If you buy a Checkmate mx-13 then two motors would be your best choice.

70hp Johnson will push it 65mph with a 21 pitch prop set high. You definately will need trim tabs. Mine chinewalked like hell until I installed tabs.

Even better would be a 90hp mercury, jacked up with a nose cone....ye haaa

I had two, the first one I cracked in half and blew up three motors doing stupid things like chasing giant power boat wakes. :D :D :eek: :stupid: After I cracked in half I left it to rot in my brothers back yard and he pushed it down a hill. :eek:

It is now a flower box.

The second one I restored to mint condition and installed wrap around sit down bolster. :rolleyes:

I used to rip around boston harbor in it on fourth of July... :drink:
