I have a 1998 253 Convincer. The only thing I do not like is the windshield. I would preffer a fiberglass windscreen with pop-up shields.

My favorite part is the the overal looks and the comfort.

This one is for sale, I have moved up.

Carpeted cockpit floor is the first change. I wish it had a fiberglass liner which is much easire to keep clean.
I really like the fact that the whole boat is cored and has no flex. Solid in the rough stuff.

I agree with 229on the carpet deal.

I agree with the white-out package. I even took off the vinyl "Checkmate" lettering on the sides. The totally white hull looks awsome!

Agreeing with Mate229, Id go with the fiberglass cockpit liner.

What I love most...Wide open rough water capability!!

I have a 1999 259. I think the boat is great. I would change those ridiculous red L.E.D. trim indicators. Can't see them in the sunshine, so what good are they. I have to shield the sun with my hand to see where they are.

454 MAG i have a 99 270(same as 259 i believe correct??) and am not sure what indicators you are refering to? do you have something optional to the standard white face trim gauge??

Yeah I have to agree with 454mag on the gauge that thing sucks. Has anybody else had trouble with the hoses that run to the tab cylinders coming off?I tried every clamp I know of to keep those things on the plastic fitting and nothing worked. finaly got sick of messing with it and called insta trim. They sent me out new cylinders and hoses which I put on but havent tried yet. Damn i wish I would have called them sooner!!!!

I had a 251 with Boatlevelers. The best thing I ever did was to install a set of K-planes and indicators. No more problems and you didn't have to slow down to deploy them.

mzx800,

I am referring to the trim tabs guage. Mine has L.E.D. bars that light up as you lower the tabs. But, as i said before you can't see the lights in the sunshine. Unless you are out at night or run the boat on rainy days, they suck. Once again, what good are they?

I beleive that red LED gauge is Bennet. You guys should be able to change over to mechanical indicators. Sydwayz23 here on the board has Bennett tabs on his Sonic AND has mechanical indicator on the dash. The red cables go thru the hull and are attatched to the Bennett tab.

Man, thats tuff. I guess what I like the best is the gelcoat quality and the fact that the builder really stands behind the product. What I did not like is the lack of stainless steel hardware on my 1990 Starflite. I would have purchased another Checkmate if they offered a 26' - 30' offshore fishing boat :).

I just purchased a 97 280zt w/454 mag carb. I bought it from a friend who bought it new. He got it all white and did a custom paint job in purple and yellow. The boat handles very well and rides in the big stuff well. My friend had snap-in carpet made for it and it works well in regard to cleaning. This is our first boat, so I can't wait for winter to end, since we bought the boat in Nov. and drove it once and had to put it away!
