I don't know if this is old news but I found a listing for a 275 ZT for sale in Pa. Looks like another Baja carry over. I am glad to see Checkmate pushing on in this poor economy.

Looks nice I like the colors and the design.

noyzee 07-07-2009 09:45 AM

looks like a carry over, but they may have changed the deck a bit. hard to see. i guess we will see

noyzee 07-07-2009 10:55 AM

got news that they did a 35 as well. looks to be a carry over. looks nice, but again its a carry over so some people hate it, some like it some could care less.
i say as long as checkmate keeps there "checkmate" going then good for them if they can corner new customers who enjoy the "baja mates" as long as its checkmate quality, who cares i guess, let them get threw the hard times, then hopefully come up with a new set up.
hopefully something in the 33 range with a single 600 in it. hehe

anything goes 07-07-2009 10:06 PM

nice to know i will be able to find parts lfor my 04 275... r these gfx. in gell? they look awsome

noyzee 07-08-2009 10:00 AM

yes, in gel graphics. mate has been doing these for years as well.
i must say my 2003 checkmate has a better finish then both my old mans newwer baja. one thing for sure. the hull and gel work on the mates might not have the flash of the baja, but man it is top notch work

anything goes 07-08-2009 06:07 PM

i wonder how regie feels about that 35....thats almost 1/2 price of his.........is that the same as the ol?

noyzee 07-09-2009 07:48 AM

no, thats not an outlaw based mold, thats the boss type, the more round one. sucks mate is just tossing graphics on bajas now, but atleast they still have there old lineup and now they have an upgrade for those who love that style baja so i guess its the best of both worlds

275 Checkmate photos - Like the ZT 350, this boat will be offered with either a full framed windshield or a low profile windscreen. These photos are not of the final product.

noyzee 08-10-2009 04:29 PM

in that other photo post it looks like something big and white in the backround? any info on that?

SOX 08-10-2009 08:29 PM

My vote would be to do away with the windshield or make it an option. The 275 looks way better with the fairing.

TEAMBAJA 08-24-2009 05:35 PM

I like how they brought some color above the rubrail. I suggested that many times only to be shot down.

The next question to ponder............will Hawkeye become "the worlds largest Checkmate dealer"?

fireguy 08-24-2009 06:34 PM

I like the colors and as noted the extra little color above the rubrail is nice. It would look way better with the windscreen.

PURPLE HORNET 08-24-2009 09:43 PM

What Baja mold was used to make that boat its looks like the 272 to me.

It was called the 275 which replaced the 272. The 278 was the most recent.

i dont like the way they only changed the colors.
they should have done the nice pop up bow light inplace of those cheep crap ones (my dads has them and they have broken 2 times already!!)

and the cheep plastic white horn in the bow looks like hell, there old school stainles one looked classy.

from what i can tell atleast they got rid of the cheep threw hull for the bilge and put a stainless one on.

i like the boat, but a couple checkmate upgrades would be nice besides the colors.

i hope they do a 30-33 baja/checkmate but make 50% baja and 50% checkmate and i think they will have a perfect boat!! instead of 97% baja and 3% checkmate.

XT-Innovator 08-26-2009 05:50 PM

The gelcoat work, and interior are both very nice. It must be lighter weight, to be getting that speed right out of the box?

X-Driver 08-26-2009 07:20 PM

Dave, you know a Checkmate decal on the side of that old pig is at least worth 2-3 more mph.

I like it. I have ridden in arcticfriends 272 many times and I will tell you the design+checkmate quality=great 27 foot boat.

cpiefer06 10-22-2009 10:58 PM

I thought I was looking at a Baja by the pictures, then reading on I was right I guess??? SO is that the case, is the checkmate the old Baja? And as far as speed, I would doubt it would be lighter to get that speed, Our 99 with a 454 MPI does 66-67 with LAB prop. So the 496 should get that easy.

boat4fun 10-23-2009 04:10 PM

I would imagine that your 272 has the 454 "Mag" MPI (385hp) to be showing those speeds?

Baja rated the 272 @ 4400 lbs
Baja rated the 275 @ 4400 lbs
Baja rated the 278 @ 5100 lbs
CM rates their 275 @ 4100 lbs

cpiefer06 10-23-2009 09:52 PM

Yep that is the engine 454 Mag and 385 hp, now I havent run it on my gps but your guy said it went about 66.5 gps when they tested it out before they winterized just a few weeks ago. I wont be suprised come spring will I??? LOL You should remember the boat I just got it there before Labor day, anything I should know about it?

So when can we see a CM ZT275 might have to trade but I think the Mrs might shout me. LOL

Did they change anything major?

boat4fun 10-26-2009 04:01 PM

I checked with the tech that worked on your boat, he said your boat (before the new prop) ran 64.5 MPH, after the prop change they doccumented your boat at 66.7 MPH. So your boat is running good!! Trim Pump / Radio / Remote / Winterize / Custom SS Prop / & Detail sounds like is what was all done.

I like the fact that you're already checking out the new CM 275

ENJOY your new boat & THANKS for your business!!

cpiefer06 10-26-2009 07:47 PM

I was just kidding, seriously I am not worried. Being I am on vaca this week I was thinking of heading south to use it yet again this year but even Mo is cold there too.

Back to the ZT275 are there many changes form the Baja version other than graphics.

jln 10-27-2009 07:54 AM

just noticed the other day, that Shogrens , has a 275 baja by fountain , new boat for sale. is the checkmate the same boat?. kinda interesting . I have owned 5 checkmates in the past 12 yrs, there gel work is the best. IMO, but like anything in life the more you spend the more you should expect.

boat4fun 10-27-2009 06:23 PM

The Baja 272 model was the start of this duplicated model, they were available from 1993 - 2001.

The 275 model is no longer offered through Baja, this model was offered by Baja (Brunswick) from 2001 - 2008.

The Baja "by Fountain" is called a 278, which is a similar model, when comparing to the (older version) Baja 275. They also offer a 277 Islander (open bow version).

Checkmate, recently came out with their 275 version, off of the Baja 275, which is "very" similar.

The 275 Checkmate is a 1000 lbs lighter boat, it uses in gel graphics, where Baja "by Fountain" paints on their graphics. The Checkmate 275 molds in their swim platform, compared to the add on platform used on the Baja "by Fountian" 278. As far as speed / performance, an insider at Checkmate has reported higher speeds than what I have personally witnessed in the 278. Baja "by Fountain" comes standard with hydraulic steering and a lab finished prop, where it is optional on the Checkmate 275. Price comparisson, the Checkmate retails for less money.

My opinion, they are all very nice boats (Checkmate / Baja / Baja "by Fountain), it's all in what you're looking for!!

Boat4fun, thanks very much for the info.
