Checkmate

Checkmate owners need to reply on this thread about stress cracks. I think the comments are BS

Why do they keep yappin about Progression? That has to be the most outdated line of boats in the boating world. Look at the cockpit pics.

Have heard they are built well but dont run very well. Yes, they look like they're from the 80's!

I added my 2 cents , the Checkmates are very nice boats, But IMO its not an offshore race boat and it should not be compared to those purpose built type boats. Im sure Checkmate could easily build an offshore race boat if you wanted them too, strengthen the hull with some extra tweeks and glass the hull and deck together .

Checkmate has built numerous race hulls since the sixties. Is your standard Checkmate a offshore boat no. But if you really think about it. Checkmate sales are mostly 30 foot and under. Who in their right mind would want a boat under 30 foot if he was only going to be rough water like offshore conditions.

Let me tell you if you don't know, the guy with a big head with a empty wallet that's who.

All BS aside Checkmate builds whatever the customer wants. If you decide you want to race a 21 foot boat in 5 feet of chop they will build a boat for you.

the rigging on those progressions does look awesome but they are kinda ugly....and at the end of the day the blonde next to you could give a **** about how straight the wires under the dash are.....

Checkmate builds a nice product period. They did back in the day and they do today under new ownership. I would be proud to own one of their products.

As for stress cracks most all boats develope them over time some worse than others. I have a very good friend that has repared stress cracks on the air inlets of his 35 Fountain twice and they are back again. It happens to all brands regardless of the purchase price. I have spoken with really good fiberglass repair guys and custom painters and the stories they tell are amazing.

Back in the fall of 09 i bought a new checkmate, a ZT240, i have gone through 4 new checkmates in 12 yrs . had a 253 , 2000br and ZT230br . I have always liked Checkmates i spent 5 yrs in the coast guard 79 -83, i got to crawl through alot of boats and i always liked the finish work on the mates. The best thing IMO is when you call they answer the phone, the day i bought my ZT240 before i handed the check over i had a few simple questions and my dealer just dialed the number and within seconds i was talking to Doug Smith. Hopefully the fine people at Checkmate are keeping busy.

Guy's
Progression builds an excellent boat --
The resale off the tri-state area sucks because nobody knows about the. It is even starting to suck in this area because of the old saying -- You have seen one -- you have seen them all -- I mean look at the two progression's Lightspeed has for sale -- 27 and 29 foot
They have been using the same tired paint scheme as you see since thier first boat was popped out of the mold.

I would say to anyone on this site to take what they believe is there best boat hull under 30' and put it side by side with a C/M and show me why your product is a better one,

I will be as bold to say this -- You will loose the arguement and pay about 30 to 100 % more for your product to do so.
